Don’t kid yourself, I watch it for the dresses.

I should slap this bumper sticker on my car — I brake for superficiality!

And the winners are:

Glenn Close for one of the most figure-flattering, tasteful gowns I’ve ever seen. Love the color, love the cut, love the way she looks in it. Glenn Close is not one of those movie stars I expect to make the grade when it comes to glamour, but this time, she really picked a winner.

Both Octavia Spencer and Milla Jovovich are the epitome of old time elegance in these glittering gowns.  I’m not usually a fan of glitter, but wow, these two women really stand out.  I love the way Milla’s dress drapes across the bias and Octavia’s fits her like a glove.  Perfect.

Viola Davis gets high marks for the glorious emerald green color of her dress and its unusual cut.  She looks fantastic in this gem.

Rooney Mara is a winner from head to toe.  I love her retro look.  She may be new to the red carpet, but she dressed like a pro.

They did look nice. Viola Davis looked great in her dress.

  2. I thought Ronney Mara looked great but the little flaps were weird. Octavia Spencer rocked that dress – so elegant. And Glenn Close has a woman’s body and looks great in the dress she had on. Mila’s dress was great and I though Viola’s was amazing. There was a lot of that tier/ruffle thing going on.

Jessica Chastain’s dress was great but I don’t think it suited her. It was too weighted looking and the color was not good on her. It was as if she loved the dress and IT wore Her to the event. Steph

I tend to fixate on the color and texture of the dresses. The subtle stormy color of Glen Close’s dress is amazing, I loved it the best! I also loved Elle Kemper’s gorgeous rusty, cooper, bronze, pewter spangled dress that matched her red hair, stunning. The whole package was Angelina Jolie-perfect glamour.

  4. Hi Kat. I look at the fit too, and how it fits the person. Elle Kemper’s was gorgeous. The only thing I didn’t like about Angie’s dress (because she’s my favorite dresser) was that is was so black I couldn’t see any details. I wanted details.

  5. Steph – Glenn Close looked better than ever! And Octavia Spence? Wow!

  6. I think you have a girl crush on Jessica, Penny! She was the one bright spot in The Help – at least as far as the white women went.

  7. Amber, I liked Viola Davis’ dress. And I like her without the wig.

  8. Glenn looked amazing…So sexy and elegant..I loved Milla’s dress as well…

  9. I agree, Savannah – Glenn is stunning! Milla too!
