Man, you just can’t get away from controversy. Boxing… tsk tsk tsk. Boxing match apparently fixed. A disgrace indeed.
The Olympics did away with baseball and softball, to my everlasting disappointment. Now they’ll probably ban boxing, an Olympic sport I’ve always enjoyed despite its reputation for corruption. I clearly remember sitting alongside my dad, watching every American bout in the 1976 Montreal Olympic games. This was the U.S. team that consisted of Sugar Ray Leonard, Michael Spinks, Leon Spinks, Leo Randolph and Howard Davis, Jr. This team won five gold medals, seven medals total.
Just in case you’d like to reminisce -
I’m pretty sure that’s Howard Cosell announcing.
Major congrats to the All-Around Women’s Gymnastics Gold Medal Winner, the daring Gabrielle Douglas. She rocks. So does the U.S. Women’s rowing team. They knocked it out of the water today.
Now we have to wait to see what Insane Bolt can do.
Oh, hey, a couple interesting factoids about women’s beach volleyball and those bikini bottoms. Do you know that during a previous Olympic games one of the judges wanted to disqualify the American women for having bikini bottoms that covered too much skin? Were not skimpy enough? Can you believe it? It was a Brazilian official I guess. The Americans appealed and were allowed to play. Now you can play in a unitard if you wish, which is especially nice since it’s so cold this summer in England.
