A great birthday or the end of the world as we know it.

I’m not sure which.

My husband’s birthday is 12/12/12.  So we’re spending a week, all of us, at a beach house.  Should be fun – games every night.  Good food, wine, maybe some bourbon (Jaye).  Just the family.

Of course according to the popular press’s interpretation of the Mayan Calendar the world will come to an end on 12/21/12.  Sort of the inverse of 12/12/12.

According to what I’ve read, the Mayan Calendar doesn’t actually predict the end of the world.  The Mayans believed in the end of an era or particular age, and the beginning of a new era, or age.

So maybe just the end of the world as we know it.  Which is my second favorite R.E.M song, the first being Losing My Religion.

Anyway, I’ll be back on the 15th.  If there’s wifi at the beach house I’ll keep in touch, otherwise I guess it’ll be a Julia blackout for a while.

So party on, dudes!

Have fun, you and the family gathered around the proverbial campfire. I think the guy who knew how to engrave passed away, or was killed off for predicting the end of the world. Or, they ran out of rock. Happy Bday Doc. S

My birthday’s 12/21…I always suspected I’d have a hand in ushering in the apocalypse.

Hope your guy has a happy birthday! Nice post on the Mayan calendar, too. Have a great time with your family.

  10. Your husband and my brother share the same birthday. I sent him a card of a hiker in the mountains, wearing shorts and boots, carrying a pack. On the cover it says, “This birthday do something new and exciting to celebrate…” And inside it says, “Ask directions.”
Maybe that could be sent to any man, but it especially applies to my brother.
Anyway, his plan is to have a terrific birthday, and then on the 21st, well…if the Mayans are right, he’ll have at least had his party.
Happy birthday to your husband. Party hardy, just in case…
