At last, a bloody alternative to The Walking Dead!

VIKINGS!

Vikings, Ragnar, Rollo and Lagertha.

Vikings, Ragnar, Rollo and Lagertha.

Oh.  My.  God.  Violence.  Blood.  Gore.  Sadism.  Barbarism.  Gold.  Slaves.  Sex.  Family.  Loyalty.  Betrayal.  Feuds.  Sailing ships.  Hot Viking raiders.

I loved the The Saxon Chronicles, a series by Bernard Cornwell.  If you actually read what I post you know I’m a big fan.  (Hat tip to Tom Stronach who turned me onto the books.)

Vikings, a nine-part series on The History Channel, follows my favorite character from The Saxon Chronicles – Ragnar.  Lord, I don’t even like blonds and I’m fanning myself.  His tall dark brother Rollo is more my usual type but as my son says, Rollo is kind of a dick.

Seriously good stuff. I get my blood and gore fix along with a heavy dose of Norse mythology and English history. Cuz you know I’m missing Downton Abbey too!

I’m recommending Vikings on The History Channel. If you click the link above you can watch online as well.

I have it on the DVR. Hoping to catch up while resting after surgery.

  2. Amber — I don’t know – blood and gore after surgery would be hard for me! Best of luck with the surgery.
I am not a bit fan of gore – True Blood’s gore is all black cherry jello. That makes it kind of funny.

  3. Penelope says:

I’ve heard there are some extremely excellent beards in this show. Gonna watch it!

  4. I’ve been meaning to check out Vikings. Now that you’ve mentioned it, too, I definitely have to watch it. Who doesn’t love hot vikings?

We’ve been loving this series. The History Channel has outdone itself. Captains Of Industry is also beautifully produced and as addictive as watching Dallas!

  6. I agree, Kat. Television has really stepped up its game. I understand this series is directed by the director of Elizabeth. I especially like it when they use subtitles.

  7. Totally, Mat! Get to watchin’! :)

  8. Yes, Penny. Beardilicious! ;)

  9. Oh no, Steph. This is excellent blood and gore! Makes you feel much better.

  10. Yes, it will help you heal, Amber. Well, the hot Vikings will help you heal. I’ll be thinking of you next week.
