When I edit… I edit.  There’s no stopping.  I actually picked up supper tonight.  Don’t usually do that.  Plus Jake and I went for a two hour hike late this afternoon – until after sunset.  It was sweet!  And he’s being a lovely boy these days – really, I swear!  Didn’t even snap at that vicious Teacup Chihuahua, Zini, when Zini attacked his toes.  God almighty that little Zini is nasty.

The Artist and Is It Spicy? are FREE on Amazon through the 18th.  Did I say FREE?  Hmmm.  Did I mention the books are FREE?  The truth is I write to be read so please, go read!  Should I remind you once more that the books are FREE?  :)

I know I’ve scheduled my other free days too, just can’t remember the exact dates at this moment, aside from Incorporeal – Valentine’s Day, of course.  I’m also hoping for a quick release of In the Flesh.  Another round of edits to go.

Oh and I can’t miss The Big Bang Theory and Person of Interest.

And then it’s on to a serious topic.  Red Bull.

Oh yeah!  Oh yeah!  Channeling my inner-cheerleader.  Can you see me doing back flips?  Yes, I cannot tell a lie.  I was a cheerleader.  Oh, how I loved those skirts!  They were so delightfully flouncy!

I love Superbowl Sunday.

A.  Great football (usually).

B.  Even greater commercials (usually).

C.  Super fun junk food (usually – especially if I’m making it).

D.  After attending some sucky Superbowl parties, it’s become our tradition to stay home and watch so we can concentrate on the game and eat some damn tasty food (usually).

So, we’re having homemade guacamole – I keep it simple, avocados, cilantro, green onions and lime juice, with just a spritz of Tabasco.

Peppadews stuffed with fresh ricotta, drizzled with Italian balsamic.

Bagna cauda – Penny Watson inspired me – and of course Morimoto!  Anchovy with garlic and olive oil (thanks Penny for the Round Pond!) – but my own spin – and I’m using fresh steamed and chilled veggies as the dipper-agent.  Is that a word?  Steamed brocollini, radishes, brussel sprouts, radicchio, tiny red peppers and a small loaf of just-baked sourdough bread.

Cerignola olives that I have already rinsed (to get rid of any salt), and marinated in olive oil, sliced blood oranges, chili flakes and black pepper.

And I might make some deviled eggs.  No, I do not put pickle relish in my deviled eggs.  Hell no.  Gotta be a mix of mayo and Miracle Whip with horseradish and chili sauce.  Oh, and smoked paprika sprinkled on top.

I don’t use the word blessed, because I don’t consider myself special, nor do I think God chooses to bless certain people while ignoring others.  However, I can say that I have been fortunate enough to spend significant face time with two authors I’ve met on line.

A little over a year ago, author Mia Watts visited me.  She and I first met in a superficial way via our shared publisher, but we really met when I read her gorgeous prose in Claimed By Darkness, and I just had to tell her how magnificent her writing is.  Claimed is the only M/M romance I’ve ever read or, for that matter, will ever read.  Just the facts, ma’am, no insult intended to all you readers of M/M.  I compared her prose to Lord Dunsany.  Wordy, evocative, lush, sensational…

Anyway, Mia let me drag her up a mountain, to the beach, all over our little valley.  She’s the same in person as she is on line, genuine, funny, enthusiastic, loyal, sweet.

Now I’ve met author and book blogger, Penny Watson, up close and personal.  I loved having her here.  What you see over at her site or read in her books, is exactly what she is.  Like Mia, she’s genuine, warm, funny, enthusiastic… not quite as sweet, she’s a bit on the spicy side!  And it’s funny, we originally met over food, and man, we ate some great meals (Morimoto anyone?) during her visit.  She read my contemporary, Beauty and the Feast, and contacted me.  The circular nature of author interactions is really very interesting!

I’m amazed I’ve had the opportunity to meet two such talented, creative, intelligent authors.  They are exactly what the genre needs to show the world that romance is not for dummies.  Penny’s most recent release, Sweet Magik, is a thinking woman’s Christmas romantic fantasy, i.e., librarian soft porn, as it was recently referred to in The Paris Review.  Damn girl, that kind of publicity is priceless!  Green with envy here…

Anyway, Penny, I am so glad you came!  Missing you already!

Penny Watson is very flexible.  No, get your mind out of the gutter, you librarian porn hound you.  That’s not what  I mean.

What I mean is, she’s willing to hike, walk, sail over water, take a bus, watch me eat raw oysters – although she didn’t try one, but she’s good with fish sauce.

Even if something isn’t quite what we’d hoped, she likes it.  She sees the good in it.

We’ve spent a lot of time discussing the life of a writer and the various frustrations we deal with.  There are so many ways to break down in the face of obstacles, large and small.  The trick is to bend, not break.  Make like the reed.

Or as Stoltzfus says to John Book in Witness, “Rest, Mr. Book, that’s the ticket.”

My prescription – Flexibility, Mr. Book that’s the ticket.  Be an option quarterback.  It’s too easy to allow yourself to become paralyzed by doubt, fear and indecision.  And then you get sacked.

Notice the approaching super-bowl appropriate sport’s analogy?  :)

Wednesday – off to the Marin Headlands and Rodeo Beach for semi-precious carnelian and jade.
