Hey, I’ve been giving away my books on Goodreads so you might want to check it out. Just finished a giveaway for Pushing Her Boundaries and once it’s approved, Beauty and the Feast will be listed. Then I think maybe Anytime Darlin’ and Come Back To Me. Maybe even my four book science fiction series, Daughters of Persephone.

If I could figure out how to give away ebooks, I’d list my ebooks too. Anybody know how to do that? If you do, let me know.

Hubby told me I can borrow his Kindle while my eyes are covered, and listen to my own romance novels on text to speech. Have you listened to books on Kindle? The male and female voices are both oddly engaging…charming, you might say, especially when the female voice asks in an innocent, metallic, Irish-sounding lilt, ” Do you want me to suck your….?” Not that anyone asks that specific question in any of my books…Heaven forbid!

He’s trying to make me feel better about tomorrow – remember, I am the person who swore she couldn’t breathe due to the cast on her leg a couple years ago, when he so kindly pointed out – For Christ’s sake, it’s on your leg, not your head!

I’ll leave you with these words of wisdom, uttered straight from the horse’s mouth just a few moments ago: (I swear I am not deserving of this man!)

“You’ve nursed three children, but your breasts are still so perky!” See what I mean? It’s a good thing for me that he likes ‘em little! I’m hoping he’ll give me a good radishing tonight because I’ll be on restriction for two weeks. This is how he does – instead of being all skeered, I’m thinking about you-know-what.

This time I did ask first if I could quote him. Poor guy, I embarrass him on this site constantly. Oh Penny – he’s got magnificent facial scruff!

All right…see ya’ll next week. Happy St. Patty’s Day!

Reasons given were: too gross, too long, too boring, too acrobatic, too gratuitous, too unbelievable.

I have to admit I’m occasionally guilty of skimming or skipping. I recently purchased several books – print books via Amazon – written by some of my go-to authors and I skipped the sex scenes. Why? Well, as I commented on Jane’s post, if I’m skimming or skipping the sex scenes, chances are I’m skimming or skipping most of the book, primarily out of boredom. There is nothing more disappointing – reading-wise – than anticipating a new story or a new take on an old story, but instead discovering the same old same old has simply been repackaged, and that includes the same formulaic sex scenes.

Writing a sex scene is hard work. Writing a good sex scene is even more hard work. It’s a complex process and the way I see it, you have to be very involved in what you’re writing because context is everything. There must be a realistic reason for the characters to do what they do, behave as they do. And I believe that once the character commits to a man or a woman, the author must commit as well. My goal is to write a scene or scenes that do justice to my characters and will involve, enthrall, and entertain my readers. I think if an author just tosses in a gratuitous sex scene because they feel it’s required of them, the reader will recognize it and probably start to skip and skim. I’m a fan of fade-to-black or behind closed door sex scenes if an author isn’t comfortable doing the down and dirty. Really…it’s okay, just give me a good story.

So check out Jane’s post and leave me your comments. I would love to hear your answers – do you skim? If so, I really want to know why.

Normally, I prefer to let others express their opinion on a book. However, author Fran Lee gifted me a copy of her book, A Brief Moment of Pleasure, to take with me on my trip and I have to say, the book is a delight. It’s a joy to read a story about a woman who can hold her own, not in the business world for a change, but in the world of martial arts. Fran Lee makes it clear that the world of Japanese martial arts continues, even now, to be primarily a world of men. A woman has to work two or three times as hard as a man to be recognized and respected for her achievements and abilities. The really cool thing about this story is I know the author, herself, is indeed a respected martial artist and she has stood in her heroine, Lisa’s shoes. My question is…did she have a hot guy like James Rhee panting at her stiletto heels? Hmmm? Do tell!!!

The story is unique and the author’s sincere voice comes through. Lisa’s relationship with James develops at a realistic pace. The reader shares Lisa’s frustration – she wants the man in her bed with a deep passion, but he’s her boss. First and foremost, she wants to earn his respect. She has no intention of becoming his plaything – Lisa wants more than a brief moment of pleasure. The story is sweet and serious at times, laugh out loud funny at others. The bedroom scenes are smoking hot. The book is one where you can flat out lose yourself in romance for a few days!

Unfortunately, Asian heroes are rare in our contemporary romance novels. I hope James Rhee is the exception that proves the rule.
