My Head Shots and a Sunday Note:
Remember to drop by Michelle’s Book Blog and give yourself a chance to win a signed print copy of Captured - you can read my interview too and see one of my new head shots! http://michellesramblins.blogspot.com/
She’s posted both an interview with me and a lovely review of Captured, one of my favorite books to write.
This is head shot number one. I climbed a tree for this shot. I look happy and it seems as if I have cleavage. I don’t. It’s the push-up bra and the tree branch I’m leaning on. Jewish people may have cleavage, but they get nervous when they look happy - it attracts the evil eye. And no, I’m not wearing make-up. Make-up makes me look like Bozo the Clown. Or maybe Ronald McDonald.
Anyway - I’ll be posting head shots this week and you all can choose the one you want me to use for my blog. You decide. As I said, this is option number one.
I finished reading Catching Fire, How Cooking Made Us Human - it’s a great fast nonfiction read. The author, Richard Wrangham, kept me enthralled with his very easy to understand theories on the cooking of food and how it influenced the rapid and astounding evolution of the human brain, the human body, and the division of labor between the sexes. My next book? Spice, the History of a Temptation, by Jack Turner. Cannot wait! In my TBR pile? Mukiwa, A White Boy in Africa and When a Crocodile Eats the Sun, both by Peter Godwin. On ebooks I’ve got romance author, Katalina Leon‘s entire libraray - yummy! I plan to start with Noblesword.
The puppy, Jake, is out in the backyard running his little feet, oops, his big feet off, after his doggy cousin who is visiting for a few hours. She’s an 18-month old German shepherd-coon hound mix. I used to think she was crazy. Compared to Jake, she’s an angel.
Many thanks to those of you who’ve signed up for my newsletter. I still have three unconfirmed email addresses I cannot access. Check your spam folder and see if the confirmation letter is there.
Oh, one more thing - I got word from Siren yesterday that the release of my full-length cowboy romance, Anytime Darlin’, is scheduled for August 26. I won’t be around - I’ll be canoeing in the Boundary Waters in Northern Minnesota. I love all my books, but Anytime Darlin’ is very, very special. I encourage you to give it a try!

Julia…you look gorgeous! Great photo!

Hey, Love the pic! You are gorgeous..even without makeup and faux cleavage. LOL. Dying to see the others.

Hi Julia,
I really like this head shot and you don’t need make-up. Very attractive skin tones. The bit of “cleavage” is definitely not too revealing.
I envy you your coming trip. Please share the experience with us once you return.
And about Jake…we had Labrador Retrievers or Lab mixes the entire time my son was growing up. No end to the trouble they find or what they will steal given the chance. LOL If my Hubby missed a wrench or a garden tool, it was usually hidden in the doghouse.

I am glad we learned to cook (homo sapiens that is) because I don’t like raw meat.
I think this is a great photo. My husband loves non-fiction food books so maybe he can pick it up.
I am going to run a contest for the last copy of captured and The Sherlock Holmes ARC I reviewed a while ago. I asked the pub if he cared and received no response - it is probably out already I think.
Any plans to come east? for the lobster I owe you? Steph

Isn’t she a hottie? The woman never wears makeup and she looks like a million bucks. All. The. Time. Plus, I’m not at all surprised you climbed a tree, Julia. Which one was it? Was it the one from the park with the octopus branches? This looks like a different tree limb…

I knew you were a sweetie but I had no idea you were so gorgeous! I’ll have to remember how handy tree limbs are when I want someone to think I have clevage, LOL!
Your non-fiction reads sound wonderful, especially the one about humans learning to cook (my second favorite activity next to writing). Definitely reading that one:-)

OMG!!! You are such a cutie…
Okay, cutie is one of those word some girls hate, so how about red-hot hottie!!!! I know, double hot there, but I didn’t think you’d mind.
Ahhh, the almighty cleavage. Yeah, I put on the bras and still… nothing baby. I keep asking Santa but…now if I could walk around with someone pushing my boobs together, that would work
Love the pic. Can’t wait to see the others. Great job.
hugs,

Look at how adorable you are! Awww.

Penelope - Thank you! A long time ago, I forced myself to just say thank you.
Regina - Drop by tomorrow! You’ll see half of the rest of them. I think we got like 19 good shots out of between 300 and 400. Yep, faux cleavage.
Rebecca - thanks for stopping by. I know, the puppy phase is crazy! He thinks being naughty is the most fun thing ever!
Steph - this is a great book. If your hubby wants to read it, I’ll send it to you. I planned to sell my copy back on Amazon anyway. I agree, cooking is a wonderful invention - but he has some interesting things to say about division of labor and how women across the world work way harder than men!
Oh Mia - we’re so in love! No, not the octopus tree. This was a tree outside her home just in front of her vineyard. My boot got stuck in it!
Yes Paris - tree limbs = cleavage. Good thing to remember for those of us boobily-challenged!

Kris - I like cutie - that’s what my husband calls me. Thank you!
Hey Chris - so glad you’re here! I have never in my life been called adorable! Yay!

What a great picture! That will look fantastic on all your promo materials. I can’t wait to see the others because this one looks like a keeper already.

Julia, you’re gorgeous! This photo has so much life force. You look like the poster girl for healthy living! It’s a treat to see your eyes and beautiful smile.
I’m so happy Siren is releasing “Anytime Darlin’” now it can find the loving audience it deserves.
XXOO Kat
PS there is no way you could ever look like an ax-murderer! lol

LOL Kat!
August 15th, 2010 at 2:56 pm
My god, girl! And you said you were over 39! Liar! And Kat, I have a photo of her that looks a bit ax-murderish…she has a knit cap dragged down over her head and red hair sticking out at all angles. But she’s a damn cute ax-murderer.

Hon I totally adore this pic. Wow, you’re gorgeous. And this setting is just wonderful. I love it!
Hope you will have fun canoeing around. I have that one embarrassing canoe experience which will prevent me from ever doing it again. I blame that one my poor eye hand coordination. LOL
August 16th, 2010 at 4:05 pm
Yep, the pic with the tree is awesome. Perfect! Gawd, I hate having my picture taken for promo stuff. ugh.
August 16th, 2010 at 5:17 pm
I like the first one you posted with the tree limb the best, but they all look wonderful! I really need get some new ones done.

Thanks, Susi - yup, I will have fun except for the mosquitoes and the bears. I hate mosquitoes with a passion! I’d love to hear your embarrassing canoe story. Did you lose your paddle?
Thanks Kathy. Photos. Yuck! ICAM!
Sandy - thank you. I definitely had to get a professional to do it.
August 16th, 2010 at 6:35 pm
Aren’t you a little cutie.
August 16th, 2010 at 6:45 pm
Oh Sandra, thanks! How’s the house sale going? Little cutie, big butt!
