Break in case of manmade and/or natural disaster

What’s in your E-kit?

An E-kit is nursing terminology for an Emergency Kit. Do you have one? Living in California where we have fires and earthquakes, floods and mudslides, we’re supposed to keep an emergency kit in an accessible place, but being lazy, we don’t have one.

Back in the old days, I used to ponder my fate in the event of a nuclear war. I’m serious. You want to know my biggest worry when I was a kid? What would happen to me if my glasses got broken ‘cuz I was blind as a proverbial bat. Now bats aren’t really blind, but their visual acuity is pretty poor. What they lack in sight, they make up for in spades in their amazing echolocation. However, since I’m human, I can’t echolocate my food.

Once upon a time, my vision was so poor that without my glasses, I was almost legally blind. When I lived in Israel, I broke my glasses and climbed into bed with a guy who wasn’t my boyfriend, in a room that wasn’t my room in the wrong dormitory, and I didn’t realize it until my face was an inch from his. I lost my glasses hiking in the Sierra’s and had to be lead out of the mountains. It was actually better because I couldn’t see the 1700 foot precipice to my right. I figured if there ever was a disaster and I lost my glasses, I’d hold the other survivors back. They’d leave me behind for sure.

So, you can imagine my unearthly joy when Lasik was approved. I was first in line! The doctor did one eye and asked, “Can you see?” And OMFG I could see the ceiling for the first time in memory. I called out, “Do the other eye! Do it! Do it!” I picked my kids up from school three hours later without glasses. Bragging now…20/15 vision in both eyes. Yes baby, yes!

So if I had an E-kit, what would I put in it? The DVDs of our kids. Photos. One of those thingys that downloads files from your computer so I wouldn’t lose all my work. Then I’d throw in my favorite books. Dog food, cat food. Bird food. Water purifying tablets, a few granola bars and dried fruit and nuts.

No special reason for this post…just killing time - going to the Giants game today. Yay! Nothing better than the home opener.

*News Flash: Got a contract with Siren to re-release Anytime Darlin’, my very first romance! Coming in August, 2010.

Have a great weekend. Think of me - I’ll be working my typical insane 72 hours. LOL!
