Photos of my new tattoo! Life imitates art - one of my characters has the exact same tattoo. This is an Ouroboros. It’s a snake biting it’s tail. Some version of this symbol can be found in the mythology of almost every ancient culture around the globe. It represents infinity, the circular nature of life/death/rebirth, eternity.
I designed it myself from one of the most primitive examples. I love the Cleopatra eye! Actually, it’s the Eye of Horus.
My grandmother interpreted dreams. I interpret dreams. I know that most people are afraid of snakes and that some religions consider snakes evil, i.e. Judeo-Christianity, but my grandmother taught me the deeper wisdom, that in ancient days, snakes were a sign of good fortune, a symbol of eternal life. Look at the medical world - the Caduceus and the Staff of Asclepius…snakes. Wisdom and healing. I have always been a great admirer of snakes. Here’s a link for your reading pleasure:

sweet!
Striking!
Pretty amazing!
I’m not surprised you’re delighted, Julia.
Enjoy!
Very cool! Despite a case of ophidophobia that goes back to before I could walk, I do find them fascinating.
Thanks, Lindsay. Cindy - I do so love snakes. I like to hold them and feel their smooth scales! Seriously. My sister is so phobic she will run from a toy snake when she knows it’s a toy. We used to raise corn snakes - Mack (the girl) and JT, (the boy). Lots and lots of baby snakes! Mack was a great snake. JT was a bit of an idiot.
Perfect! I was wondering if you got your birthday tattoo on your birthday suit… lol I love it and I think the symbol is a very apt symbol to take on as you start this rebirth cycle-namely the summer birth of the Daughter’s of Persephone… I predict you will be reborn a well-respected Sci-fi author!
XXOO Kat
Thank you, Kat! That is the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me, aside from high school when this one guy I had a crush on said I had nice tits! (Sorry - it just hit me…everyone else made fun of my small breasts.)
The seque is, I guess, that I never think of my own writing as measuring up. I have high hopes for Daughters!
Awesome, Julia!
You’re braver than me, that’s for sure. Tattoos are cool and, no, I’m not afraid of snakes. I’ve always been a TomBoy except when it comes to cockroaches and earwigs…anything else is okay by me.
Stacey
And never forget that snakes don’t give off dander or loose hairs. A very nice pet for a person with allergies. Your tat looks a bit tribal.
I have a 5 foot ball python…about as big as she’ll ever get. I have no aversion to snakes…just a healthy respect for them, especially venomous ones.
Thanks, Stacey. I’m not fond of cockroaches and earwigs myself. Fran, you’re right - the perfect pet for an allergic person, if they can get over their fear. You have a python? Cool!
Awwww!! Look at your little bitty arm!
I love the snake and the fact that you designed it. You soooo impress me with your multi-talent. May you never find out I’m a one-noter.
My ass you’re a one-noter! I just smacked the back of your little head…did you feel it? If not I’ll smack you again! How funny. You look at my arm and call it little bitty. I look at my arm and think, Jeez, I look phat! It’s called body-dysmorphia! I’m a serious sufferer!
Oh, Mia, by the way…I’m designing a dragon for your back!
Nice tat!
Thanks, Sandra!
That’s a cool tattoo, even though I am not crazy about snakes. I like the story behind it.
Yeah, I like the tribal look of it though I’m not much for tattoos for myself. Cluck, cluck, cluck… snakes? I can take ‘em or leave ‘em.
Thanks Dana and Anny!
Hey! I get the dragon, drat it, Mia!
I am so sulking that I have to wait for payday to get one, but it gives me time for a great design. Fran, you’re right-I’ve worked with ball pythons go, and they’re great snakes. I don’t know where my phobia comes from, but it’s too visceral for me to want one in the house-so I just have Chewie the iguana-same deal with dander.
Oooh, Cindy, you have time to design a great dragon tattoo! That is such your thing! I just love dragons!
Gee, now if only I knew someone who could design one…
