My Favorite Christmas Movies! Hohoho!

Die Hard, starring Bruce Willis, a wonderful Bonnie Bedelia, my favorite villain Alan Rickman, and a brilliantly nasty Alexander Godunov. This is my idea of a hard-driving Christmas flick!

White Christmas (based on the movie Holiday Inn), with Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney, and Vera-Ellen. I love Irving Berlin’s soundtrack and the dance scenes with Danny Kay and Vera-Ellen are to die for!

Sappy, right? We watch it every Christmas. I love the flick, with Jimmy Stewart, Donna Reed, and Lionel Barrymore. Bad Mr. Potter…Bad Bad Bad!

A precocious Macaulay Culkin, Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern, the great Catherine O’Hara, and John Candy. I loved watching this movie with my kids when they were little. Such a creative use of Transformers and Matchbox cars.

Need I say more? A gorgeous jazz soundtrack by Vince Guaraldi. For adults as well as children.

I’m a big Dr. Seuss fan, except The Cat in the Hat drove me nuts! I’ll take the animated Grinch movie over the newest version any day!

Just watched this the other night. Always a crowd pleaser!

Since I’m taking up way too much space, just one more - Mr. Magoo’s A Christmas Carole - it’s my favorite version of all.

This is a tiny sampling. Do you have any favorites?

I’d forgotten all about Mr. Magoo’s Christmas. I love Charlie Brown, Rudoph and the Grinch. I’ll never be too old to watch them. :)

  3. Penelope says:

Elf! I watch it all year long. It’s the greatest!

“Call me elf, one more time.”
    “You’re an elf!”

    :)

  4. There are so many good holiday movies and not enough time to watch them all.

  5. We have to watch “Elf” and “It’s a Wonderful Life” at least once each season or else it’s just not Christmas.
I never thought of Die Hard as a holiday classic but now I can’t wait to see it again!
    Ho ho ho…

Oh Julia that’s a terrific list. Home Alone is one of my faves, along with Schwarzeneggar’s Jingle All the Way, not on the list though… Now I’m in the mood to watch one of those.

  7. Yeah Amber, I’m a sucker for animated Christmas stories!

Penelope - I’ve only seen bits and pieces of Elf - I’ll have to watch it.

I agree, Savannah! No kidding! There are some good oldies too!

Oooh, Kat, oh my yes, Die Hard is a Christmas classic for sure.

Hey Delilah - thanks for guest blogging yesterday - good luck with your new release! I’ve never seen Jingle All the Way so I guess that goes on my to view list.

DIe Hard is a Christmas movie? That part must be lost in the action. Steph

  9. Ciara Knight says:

It’s a Wonderful Life is one of my all time favorite movies. *sigh* I’ve never been a Charlie Brown fan, but like Grinch.

  10. I think Die Hard is a great Christmas movie - Beethoven’s Christmas music!

Yes, Ciara, I’m so sappy. I love It’s A Wonderful Life.
