I miss The Walking Dead. Weird, huh? I know, zombies are not generally my thing, but man do I love a survival story - survival against all odds. And the odds against survival are pretty monstrous in The Walking Dead.
So once it comes back on for another season, I can add it to my list of must-sees: A Game of Thrones, True Blood (tho I skipped last season), NCIS and The Big Bang Theory.
Just the other day, I was working upstairs - I keep the television on for the talking birds - yeah, stupid, I know, but I feel bad if I leave them alone. So anyway, they like movies now that the Food Network is yawn-worthy (even for the birds) and I happened to watch some of a movie I’d never even heard of, The Happening, directed by M. Night Shyamalan with Mark Wahlberg and Zoey Deschanel. This post-apocalyptic story, which was released back in the olden days (2008) prior to the more recent zombie apocalypse, does involve, not a virus as in The Walking Dead, but a chemical released by plants in defense of their world, our planet. The chemical causes humans to go crazy and kill themselves. No, they don’t rise again as zombies, they just die. But the vision of survivors trying to outrun this chemical seemed almost like a prequel to The Walking Dead. Made the movie interesting despite the somewhat wooden acting.
Have you ever seen it? I do like these end of the world scenarios. Mostly because I like to see how the writer/director/creator determines how the survivors will survive. I must admit, The Happening had an excellent ending. But I won’t give it away just in case you decide to watch.
What happened to the Food Network? There was a time I could watch it all day long, not any more.
I did watch The Happening and it wasn’t too bad.
We watch all the same shows.
I’m a huge Sheldon fan. Of course, that’s because I’m raising a mini-Sheldon. LOL Game of Thrones is the best. I love high fantasy kind of shows and books. Never seen the movies.
I want to see more Anthony Bourdain and less Andrew Zimmer stuffing squirming things in his mouth, or the worst of the worst Man Vs Food the gorging show. There’s something incredibly sad and obscene about it.
XXOO Kat
Oh Amber, I know…It is so boring! I don’t watch a single show. Like Kat I watch Anthony Bourdain on The Travel Channel. I have the biggest crush on him and he’s so bad!
Ciara - oh yeah, got me one of those Sheldons and his group of friends! Pretty funny! Mine is more Leonard, but one of his friends is Raj and the other is Sheldon. So many years spent playing RPGs and watching Star Wars! Even our other dog, Louie, played RPGs with them!
Kat - I literally can’t stomach Andrew Zimmer and his spider eating! Oh, I gag watching his show. Now Anthony Bourdain makes for great background when you’re writing!
-I heard The Happening was awful so I never watched it. But I have seen a few episodes of The Walking Dead and I thought it was phenomenal. Can’t wait for next season…you know Stephen King and his son Joe Hill are going to write an episode?!!!
-I agree with Katalina about Man V Food….it’s funny the first time you see it. After that….geez, how many times can you watch a guy eat until he almost pukes and call that entertainment? Hmmm.
You know there’s a programing problem when:
A) The shows on the Food Channel turn viewers off food…
B) you can’t watch the food channel while you’re actually eating for fear you’ll gag or throw up. Watching “Dirty Jobs” while eating is less disgusting than Andrew Zimmer’s show and that’s saying a lot! lol
Okay, my daughter is watching Andrew Zimmer eating penises. I am gagging. He says they’re chewy and fibrous and I think I might be sick. I just watched someone boil a live turtle. OMG - I hate this show!
I need to catch up on so many shows…I have not had time to watch TV…
Hi, Took the day off from the show. I can’t get any more books. We watch TB, and if WWF isn’t on we like Supernatural. I like the forensics on Bones, I have given up on House. We get the point House is an a$$hat who almost kills people by treating the wrong disease each week, NCIS the original. Don likes Big Bang because he is a physicist.
My sis has an awesome apartment, small but right on the Hudson with views of the S of L. Book Expo amazing. Blog world interesting. I will be back.
With. more.comfy. shoes. S
Savannah - my sister wants me to watch all of lost. I cannot do that - no time!
Steph - I’m with your husband! Plus Sheldon wears those great super hero tee shirts! Glad you’re having a good time!
I loved The Walking Dead and really miss it, too. Are we sure it’s coming back? I haven’t seen anything at all about it. I thought The Happening was fair-one of M. Night’s weaker efforts. Have any of you listened to the podcast We’re Alive-A Zombie Story of Survival? It’s AMAZING. This group has been recording this podcast for several YEARS now and the story is so addictive.
Rebecca - I thought The Happening was a half-assed effort too, but some of the scenes did remind me of The Walking Dead and yes! It is coming back! Yay! I gotta pick up that podcast. Thanks for telling me about it!
Haven’t seen that one, but I am an NCIS follower.
It’s not great, Sandra, but interesting.
