An Amazing Contest!

Attention Newsletter Subscribers: This one’s for you!

Two prizes, two winners. You decide which prize you want, or maybe you want to try for both! Here’s how you can enter:

To be entered once, answer me this…In what popular television show did ‘Honey Dust‘ feature prominently?

To be entered twice, tell me in which episode of said television show ‘Honey Dust‘ was mentioned.

To be entered thrice, tell me which character said the following: “Honey Dust, it makes a woman’s skin feel silky smooth.”

Kama Sutra Honey Dust: This sensuous edible powder is made with pure, natural honey, one of ancient India’s most prized skin conditioners. Dust it on yourself and your lover, leaving a silky-soft glow, a delicate fragrance and an irresistible taste. Included in an air-tight canister is a black satin pouch filled with powder and a handmade feather applicator designed to tickle more than your imagination.

Prize number two: A one of a kind handcrafted, fully functioning Steampunk watch with a leather band.

To enter as many times as you want, recommend your favorite Steampunk novels for me to read. I’m not very familiar with Steampunk and I think it’s time I paid more attention to the genre.

The contest runs through Thursday. The winners will be announced on Friday as I’m leaving town Saturday night.

Great prizes! Lots of luck to the contestants. :)

  3. Penelope says:

Best steampunk books are The Iron Duke and Soulless (and the rest of that series by Gail Carriger). The Iron Duke is more serious, Soulless is more light-hearted and silly.

    Going to tweet! :^)

  4. Soulless is very well written and full of wit. Zoe Archer’s “The Blades of the Rose” series has a lot of romance and adventure and some magical elements. I enjoyed both.

Sounds like a great contest! LOVE the watch.

  6. Renee Rearden says:

Well, NCIS is the show (one of my favorites!), SWAK is the episode (that’s Sealed With A Kiss =D ) and Gibbs said Honey Dust makes a woman’s skin feel silky smooth.

As for recommended steampunk novels, I LOVE Zoe Archer. I read her series first. Next try Cherie Priest’s Boneshaker…loved the zombies and mad scientists. I haven’t read The Iron Duke or Soulless, but I’m going to!

Thanks for the awesome giveaway, Julia!

  7. 1) The television show is NCIS

    2) SWAK Season 2, Episode 22

    3) Gibbs said: It makes a woman’s skin feel silky smooth.

Sorry, not familiar with steam punk novels

  8. Ciara Knight says:

I know all the answers to the first questions but I want the watch. :) I love Steampunk. As far as books, I’ve been disappointed in the one’s I’ve read. I do want to read Iron Duke or Soulless. :)

  9. Had no idea about Honey Dust. :) I also agree on the Iron Duke and Soulless, also “The Twisted Tale of Stormy Gale” and “Badlands” from Carina Press. (And maybe a small plug for my own Carina Press steampunk stories ;-) )

  10. Gibbs said that WOw! Was he drunk?

    Obviously it was NCIS.

Love the watch. :) Very pretty. As for reading, I’d recommend The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman, Steam and Sorcery by Cindy Spencer Pape, and The Difference Engine by Bruce Sterling and William Gibson. And I’ve also enjoyed Mechanical Rose by Nathalie Gray.

I don’t know about the honey dust though.

  13. Casey Wyatt says:

I was going to suggest Gail Carriger, but that’s been mentioned a few times already. I don’t know anything about honey dust. Another steampunk suggestion - Kady Cross- The Girl in the Steel Corset (YA book).

  14. Casey Wyatt says:

Okay - one more - Kage Baker’s - The Women of Nell Gwynne’s . And if you like cyborgs, time travel and sci-fi - any of her Company series books (which Nell Gwynne is a spin off), starting with In the Garden of Iden.

  15. I’m loving all these suggestions!

I’ve not read many steampunk novels but its a genre I’m wanting to read more of. I loved Gail Carriger’s Soulless and am looking forward to continuing the series with Changeless & Blameless. If you like YA I also really liked Lia Habel’s Dearly Departed and of course there is always the His Dark Materials series by Philip Pullman. A few books that have come highly recommended by a friend are The Boneshaker by Cherie Priest, Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld, Alchemy of Stone by Ekaterina Sedia & The Strange Affair of Spring Heeled Jack by Mark Hodder, they’re all on my wish list but I haven’t read them yet. I’ve also heard great things about The Iron Duke by Meljean Brook which I’m going to be starting soon :)

  23. Beckey White says:

I copied and pasted your questions to my post:

To be entered once, answer me this…In what popular television show did ‘Honey Dust‘ feature prominently?

NCIS (I have all the epidsodes to date on DVDs)

To be entered twice, tell me in which episode of said television show ‘Honey Dust‘ was mentioned.

SWAK (Air date of May 10, 2005-and you didn’t even have to ask)

To be entered thrice, tell me which character said the following: “Honey Dust, it makes a woman’s skin feel silky smooth.”

Gibbs (which is totally out of character for him, sounds like something that Tony would say but I just pulled out my NCIS DVDs to play the episode)

    Never heard of the term steampunked before but after binging it, I was like oh ok … Duh! I read them and never realized it (Goodreads has a list and I look over and thats how-Apparently this style has been around for years);

    1. The Time Machine by HG Wells
    2. Clockwork Angel By Cassandra Claire
    3. 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne
    4. Frankstien by Mary Shelly
    5. Steamed by Katie MacAllister

  25. Sandy Marlow says:

I’m just getting into steampunk myself, Julia. I recently read Helen Scott Taylor’s A Clockwork Fairytale and absolutely loved it. That made me want to find more. I know everyone loves Meljean Brook’s steampunk novels, so that might be a good place to start too. Haven’t read them yet but hope to. Definitely try Helen’s ebook, though. It’s terrific!

  26. Chelsea B. says:

I would love to be entered for the watch! It’s fantastic! I am new to the steampunk word, so I am sorry to say I have nothing to report! But I will definitely be looking over the suggestions!
