It’s rare, well, maybe unheard of, that I come across a passage in a romance novel worth filing away forever in my memory. There is one in Sheryl Lynn’s contemporary romance-suspense, The Other Laura.
“Ever been with a woman and she loves you so much you want to crawl inside her skin and you into hers and the rest of the world drops off into space? Your heart gets six times too big for your chest. Like it’s going to explode.” Ryder thumped himself on the breastbone. “It’s a fire right here, stoking embers into your blood. Your skin’s too small to hold all the feeling in. Anything is possible and everything is right. The only word in your head is her name, and man, you can fly.”
Beautiful.
I love this book. Read it in two sittings. Retro romance is so damn tasty. No apologies - I’m on a quest for older books that actually tell a story.

I always liked that scene. My favorite still remains the first family meal together, when Abby acts ups and Laura gives Ryder shit about HIM being a bad parent. I laughed every time I read it.
Retro-romance. Ah geez, talking to you is really, really, really making me want to write romances again.
I’ll tell ya, Jaye, there are so many good scenes in that book. And the set up is so, well, done so well, it all makes sense. Yes, write more. Me want more!
I love retro romances too. My favorites have always been the ‘oldies’. Those have always felt more heartfelt to me, so yeah I definitely know what you mean, Julia and that was a beautiful passage.
The book is great, Delilah. I didn’t start out reading the oldies so they are newies to me!
That’s the way I feel about Morning Glory by LaVryle Spencer. Lots of forever bits in that.
