An Awesome Guest Commentary from Vicky’s Husband, Don!
November 17, 2010 - 8:15 pm
Vicky is one of my readers. Her comment on my awesome post was just awesome!
Her husband, Don, offered some excellent additions to my hubby’s suggestions. What would a romance hero, an Alpha Male and former Marine say upon seeing a woman with a nice asstribute:
Don says that my hubby and I covered things pretty well, but we missed a few good ones!
Down in Oklahoma, where the wind comes sweeping down the plains…Don has heard guys say:
“I’d like to ride that”
“I’d hit that!”
The good old fashion whistle! (Don, you are so right!)
And of course there is the head shake and the “Daammmn!” (You get the idea.)
And then Vicky’s hubby nailed what the Alpha male Marine would have said here: “HooYaa!”
Well, Don, I hear you! I like that, Hoo Yaa! Works for me! OMG - I must write a story and include the Hoo Yaa!

Ok, I may have to send you some holiday fudge or something. Not only did I make a blog headline (even if not in the best way) a while back, but Now my hubby has too!
For a somewhat quite housewife in OK, this is really cool. Ok, I may not be THAT quite, but I come across that way at first, hehe. Not only did this make me laugh, but I think it made my day (*grin*).

Wait a minute…
Do I get to tease him that you called him “Awesome”???
Can’t let him get too important…well, just important enough.

I think you all are hilarious! No fudge is necessary - many thanks to Don for sticking his neck out!

I do have two additional husband comments:
From Erin’s husband - “Nice ass.” That’s all he would admit to.
From my husband, an addendum - “Calling a woman’s ass ‘awesome’ is like listening to my teenagers calling a video awesome. It’s like back in the day when teenagers used the terms ‘far out’ or ‘cool’ to describe something they liked. Referring to a woman’s backside in those terms is missing the point.

I’m so jealous! I live in Seattle where guys never cat-call! Is sad, so sad. Closest thing I got recently was my husband calling me arm-candy. So glad *someone* likes me for my body and not my brains!
Sadly in Seattle,
Daisy

Oh gosh, Daisy - so the guys are politically correct in Seattle? I know this is awful, just awful, but I told my daughter that the day construction workers stop taking that second look, my life is over! Unfortunately she replied…I feel the same way. Gawd, it’s awful to judge your self worth by what a man thinks of your ass! I figure they’re either looking because it’s still kind of shapely or it’s just so big they can’t believe their eyes! Hubby likes my body! LOL!

Love the Hoo Yaa. Oh, so true about a Marine.

Okay, I’m confuzzled. I thought the Marine whoop whoop was “Ooo Rah”?

Hey… what about the just plain…. Hell Yeah!
Maybe that’s a Canadian thing, though we’d probably say, Hell Yeah, eh?
Just kidding. Great post.

Kris - I love Canadian-speak - Hell yeah, eh?
Rebecca - since I am not a Marine, I’m going with what I’m told. I’ve heard both Ooo Rah and Boo Rah.
Ciara - I think Marines are a world unto themselves!

The original post is so funny, and I love these modifications! I’ve heard guys say Daaaamn! and the I’d like the hit that. Those are more realistic lines that we can believe a woman could fall for!

I received an email from a writer who says it might be a Southern thing - that Southern men and women of all age groups use the term awesome. As in - that’s an awesome dress, or your hair looks awesome. I can see a woman saying that. Still not a man.
The story takes place on the West Coast though, so while the characters may not be from the South, maybe the author is.
Zee - yup, those are probably the two most common expressions I’ve heard men use - at least on TV, in books, videos and movies. Not speaking from personal experience of course!
Thanks, Nina!

Hoo Yaa!
Kudos to a brave man, telling it like it is… and asstribute, well, that’s going on my list of words to use.
Since I don’t write contemporary, unless it’s heavily paranormal, my heroes have a different expressions they use for a woman’s derriere. However, for secondary characters, THIS IS GREAT STUFF.

I’ve heard my husband say, “Check out that turd bailer.”

Linda, that’s a new one! I think I would split a gut laughing if I heard someone say that! How colorful!
