True Lies…the Answers!

May 10, 2010 - 10:17 pm 3 Comments

Feeding a hungry Felicity in Montana. She’s got a nice hair coat. I’m wearing two sets of long underwear, jeans, a silk tee shirt, a cotton tee shirt, a sweat shirt, a silk scarf, a trucking hat, and my daughter’s boyfriend’s canvas Carhardt jacket. He’s 6′2″. I’m 5′6″ but I feel very short in these clothes.

All right - True Lies…The Answers!

First of all, only Madam Psychic, the great, the one and only, Fran Lee, guessed the correct answer. I do not keep Kosher!

*** Whoops! Spoke too soon. Author Chelle Cordero guessed correctly! http://chellecordero.com/

Here’s the story behind the True Lies -

1. I minored in Religious Studies. Yes, it’s true. I majored in Creative Writing and minored in Religious Studies with a focus on Biblical Hebrew and Jewish Mysticism.

2. I had a brief affair with a famous African author. Again, I must confess that this is true. It happened when I was in college. I wasn’t married and to the best of my knowledge, neither was he. He shall remain nameless. It was my role to act as liaison between the director of the International Writers Workshop and the visiting authors.

3. I keep Kosher. Lie! I am such a liar!

4. My husband and I discovered we are distant cousins. True! My mother’s father and his father’s father were cousins. Small world!

5. Among other jobs, I worked as a nude model to pay my way through college. Yes, indeed I did! I made $20 per hour, far more than I could make at my other job. I modeled for life drawing classes at the local university and a private college. I refused to model for photographers because you never know where those photos might turn up. Nude modeling is hard work. You have no idea how painful it becomes to sit absolutely still for two hours at a time. And no, the guys in the class never hit on me until I had my robe on. I asked a friend once how he and other male students see the female models. He said they get pretty interested twice during a session, when the model removes her robe and when she puts it back on, otherwise, they stay on task.

6. I hitched a ride with a man who turned out to be a Mafia boss. He took a turn too fast on a steep road and the car rolled over the side, coming to rest upright and undamaged on the switchback beneath. We kept driving. What are the odds? Again, true. A Russian mafia boss got me out of a very sticky situation and then nearly got us both killed speeding through the mountains. He offered me a cigarette when I first got into the car. I told him I didn’t smoke, that I had quit several years before. By the time we reached our destination, I was puffing away. I had to do something to keep from screaming!

7. My uncle, a well-known journalist, interviewed both the Beatles and the Rolling Stones on their first North American tours. Totally and most gloriously true.

I’m a bold-faced liar. Or am I?

My dear friend, author Sandra Cox, over at http://downtownya.blogspot.com/ ,the very first person to befriend me when I signed my very first contract, has called me out! She awarded me this Creative Writer Award.

I’ll quote her: “The award comes with strings…I have to nominate seven other creative bloggers and list either six outrageous lies about myself and one truth….or vicey versey.”

If you can tell me which statement is a lie, I will put your name in a drawing for…a copy of Captured, a copy of Beauty and the Feast, or a copy of My Everything. Three books, three winners! Your odds are excellent! Just pick out the one lie.
