Thanks, Sandy, for inviting me to speak.
I got to meet author, Sharon Lathan - a member…http://www.sharonlathan.net/
She kind of jump-started a new interest in Jane Austen - an author I really haven’t thought much about, despite the hype, since high school.
So anyway, watching the Giants in Philly and then it’s off to bed because I really have not slept must in a couple days.

Sooo … what are your new thoughts about Jane Austen?? Post a blog on it and start a conversation. I’m a great fan myself, but many people bring many interpretations to the table about her.

Hmmm….maybe I will post. I’ll have to think about this. I’ve always been on team Bronte. Never cared much about Jane Austen. I think I liked Emma more than Pride and Prejudice, and I read a few of her less well-known books and found them interesting. My girls just love her and find the Bronte sisters boring. I think I’m into the Bronte sisters because they add a certain element of gothic horror to their stories.

Hey Julia, Thanks for the shout out! I really appreciate it. I had a great time at dinner and at the meeting. Your talk was excellent, lots of fun, and interactive. The best part - aside from increasing my vocabulary in some fairly intriguing ways - was getting to know you. Best of luck in your endeavors. Be sure to let me know if you take on Austen! Sharon

do do! I’m a big fan of Emma too. Reading it now and studying some academic critiques of it. Have an argument going with my mother over it.
not into the Brontes, and not real appreciative of the goth thing - but would love to understand more. I don’t particularly like the ‘biography’ approach to story telling - Character X was born in … hard-time mis’ippi (to totally mix genres and time periods!)
I think Austen was brilliant. not for nothing is she called the female shakespeare. But many readers - including a teacher I had once - only see her as the creator of quirky characters and comedic situations.
(comedy is hard, BTW)
