Wake up and smell the coffee!

Disclaimer - this is not my bird, however my bird looks just like this and she does goofy things just like this. Every morning, in her little birdie voice, she says, “Wake up.” And every night, without fail, in her little birdie voice, she says, “Nite, Tib.” (Her name is Tibby.) It’s so sweet!

Tibby has quite the vocabulary. She asks, “So?” She repeats various versions of “Step up,” as in, “Wanna step up,” and “Please step up,” and “Tib step up.”

She can say, “Wait!” “C’mere.” “Okay.” “What?” “What’s up?”

Of course, cute and funny as she is, she can bite like a demon, or a dinosaur from which she’s descended - I tell you, it’s a good thing dinosaurs shrank into birds because otherwise they’d make very bad pets.

All of which is way off topic! It’s been one of those weeks where I’ve accomplished next to nothing writing-wise. The website’s about all I’ve looked at. Three days of work IRL entails at least two days of mental and emotional recovery. Then I got a nasty migraine. Still have it. I did however, get a contract offer from Siren - which is very exciting - and I managed to fill out my forms. That’s something. And I found this great coffee - just the smell draws me out of bed. Starbuck’s Gold Coast Blend - it’s like heaven.

I have watched some basketball - I’m second in my pool because I picked some early upsets but there’s no way I can win the whole thing. Enjoy some B-ball this weekend! Fist bump for March Madness!

    Congrats about Siren!

Sending you anti-migraine thoughts. I can so sympathize…

  2. Julia Barrett Says:

Thanks, Chris. Woke up this morning and it’s gone, for the time being! Let’s hope it stays gone. Yes, I’m happy about the Siren contract, but this book is going to take a major re-write - has some dark elements that have to be purged or expunged or revisited!

Don’t ban me from your site, but I hate Starbucks coffee. Maybe it’s too strong or something, but it taste like the crud that his been sitting in the bottom of the pot all day.

Good job on the contract and I’m glad that you feel better.

  4. Julia Barrett Says:

You’re banned! LOL! I love Starbucks. Peets tastes like yucky dishwater to me - so I guess I feel about Peets like you do about Starbucks. My son says the exact same thing about Starbucks coffee that you do.

Thanks for the congrats! You’ll be happy to know that I dreamed a little dream about Ekkatt’s brother Tirrit last night…I’ve got three other WIPs though! Arrrrgh!

  5. Dana Says:

The other WIPS can wait. Get on with Tirrit. (Make sure you write down the basics of the dream, so that you won’t forget it.)

  6. Julia Barrett Says:

Laughing so hard here! Gotta finish my current WIP and then we’ll see - I’ve got the barebones stuff written down, don’t worry.

I love your bird:) Sorry about your migraine.
I was listening to a story about a bird that had a very large vocab. It had to be left at a vet’s overnight and as its owner walked away, it called out, “I’m sorry. Don’t leave me.” Wouldn’t that break your heart.

  8. Julia Barrett Says:

Oh! We take care of a huge parrot - we’re actually his foster parents so he visits often and he’s such a person. He can actually carry on a conversation. When the vet comes here to see him he screams out - “No! No! No! Help me! Help me!” He’s so appropriate it’s scary.
