I can’t believe it. She likes me, she really really likes me! Yikes! I’m not accustomed to this. Penny chose my canoe series as her Blog Post of the Year! Boy…am I in trouble! http://www.pennyromance.com/
By the way, it was our saviors who took this picture. Caught us unawares.
I think I’ll post the rest of my photos from the hike tomorrow - California is interesting. You walk from fog to sun to fog again in the space of an hour. I’ve grown to love the fog in the years since we moved here.
In other news - My puppy, Jake, has suffered a setback - bleeding from a place guys don’t like the thought of bleeding from. Now we have to keep him quiet for another two weeks. Um…as if…he spent four hours sprinting around the backyard this morning, hurtling over the deck and up onto the retaining wall, and then another two hour running up and down the stairs. Chewed up two of my books and ripped two magazines to shreds. I hadn’t read them yet. OMG. Somehow I think hiking would be easier on his poor body and maybe make me feel better as well.
Oh, hey, I mixed some of the leftover Silk European drinking chocolate in my espresso today…Wow! Extreme deliciousness!
I’ll leave you with the mushroom picture. This is the best year we’ve had for oyster mushrooms.

Poor Jake. One of my dogs had a fascination with magazines. Used to drive me crazy!
Congrats on being Penny’s pick…well deserved for what you suffered.
Hi Julia! Hope Jakey feels better soon…ugh!
Thanks for writing such a wonderful series of posts about your Canoe Trip From Hell (I have to capitalize it for emphasis…he heeeee!). Such a great story! After I had my heart attack at the beginning of August, it was the first thing I read that got me excited about reading again. You da best!
Julia. Wow, I was reading some of the blog postings about your canoe trip. I’m blown away. That was a harsh trip. Can’t believe they gave you guys a rickety canoe. Sorry to hear your puppy isn’t doing well. I hope he gets better soon. That’s so sad about the bleeding.
Okay, I’ve got to go back and read about this canoe trip.
Poor Jake. I hope he starts feeling better soon. Poor little guy.
Oh, excuse me, I forgot. I ordered your book for my Kindle yesterday. I’m so excited to start reading it next month.
Amber - he doesn’t chew up shoes or clothes, he loves paper. We had a bad bad night. Poor guy.
Penny - There really aren’t enough words to thank you - I’m so glad I could help! Your heart attack was a pretty shocking event.
Delilah - hubby re-read it last night and said, yeah, what you wrote was no exaggeration. It was the truth. Amazing.
Ciara - thanks and enjoy! Well…Cara isn’t one of those fun reads, but I hope you like it.
I’m not at all surprised the now infamous “canoe trip” won blog of the year! It was great reading. I couldn’t wait to read each day’s installment of trial and perseverance against the elements and the neurotic insanity of your hosts. The whole blog read like “butter”!
I really can’t wait to read the upcoming “Pushing Her Boundaries” that’s a must read, and I’ll celebrate it’s release day with half a cup of Gorp, bon appetite! lol
XXOO Kat
Ah yes, the infamous gorp. God save me from salty gorp!
Poor Jake. Aren’t those toadstools? NOT Toads’ stools.
I never thought neutering was this big of a deal. They used to leave the nads for show dogs. But, I haven’t heard this being a tough deal.
Crikee!
No shit poor Jake! He threw up the entire night, then began itching from one of the antibiotics - don’t know which one - neutering isn’t supposed to be such a big deal! Or rather, ordeal. At least his own vet is back today and he called me, took him off all meds and said to let him know how Jake is tomorrow.
No, not toadstools. Those are actually edible oyster mushrooms. We ate them last year. I just forgot to bring a bag to gather them - they are all over the park this winter. Yummo! We can also find candy caps and a species of edible amanita, but I would never presume to eat an amanita. Could easily be death on a stalk!
There’s a mushroom guy who haunts the park. Last winter he took me on two mushroom hunts.
I’m so sorry about Jake..Poor little thing…Congrats on the series getting picked…That is such great news…
More puppy hugs to Jake. Poor guy. Congrats on the blog love!
Get well soon, Jake! And yeah, that series was the best! Congrats-especially for survival!
