My husband and I have decided everyone needs rules to live by - our rules. They are really very simple.
Rule No. 1: Do not spill your boss’ coffee, or do not spill coffee on your boss.
Rule No. 5: Don’t bitch about an off-leash dog when you are walking your dog off-leash. You haven’t a leg to stand on, girl.
Rule No. 15: Don’t park your giant-sized SUV in a compact space, or do not take up two spaces with your giant SUV in a tiny parking-space challenged lot when I am late for the ferry.
I invite you to fill in your own rules - we’re going to make them up day by day. The situation is fluid.
Oh…read the book, True Grit - I read it in two sittings - the hour-long ferry ride to San Francisco and the hour-long ferry ride back from San Francisco. It is a great book - even better than the movie and the movie was damn good. I don’t normally like first person, but first person, in the person of Mattie, was absolute perfection. Much of the story unfolds via dialogue - It is the rare author who can pull this off. Charles Portis does it brilliantly. As the cover says, True Grit is a tour de force - but not a comic tour de force as described. I thought it more of a tragedy with some lighter moments.
Good rules. 5 and 15 especially. Those people with large SUV’s who take up way too much space drive me nuts.
I heard True Grit was a great book. Hey, I just watched Julie and Julia last night… have you seen it? It’s adorable. Made me cry (multiple times of course). I am also reading and LOVING Captured….holy macarena! What a great book!
Okay, here is my rule for the day. Rule #62….Make extra coffee for your wife. Don’t make her drink the butt end of the coffee carafe. She’ll be pissed off when she wakes up.
I haven’t read the book but I really enjoyed the Coen Brother’s version of True Grit. It wasn’t a comedic romp, not by a long shot… It was gritty and difficult to get through in parts but it really stuck with me, which is saying a lot these days.
Recently, I’ve left the movie theater and within hours, forgot I saw a movie that day…. that’s just sad.
XXOO Kat
Yes, Amber…big SUVs parked poorly!
Penny - I’ve seen it and loved it the first time around. The second time around I found myself irritated with Julie, but I don’t know why. I watched for the Julia Child scenes. I’m all for rule #62!
Kat - read the book. You’ll finish it in a couple hours. It’s very much like the Coen brothers’ movie, but actually even better.
Thanks for the book recommendation. I’ll check it out.
I will have to check out the book…Nice set of rules…
I’m adding another rule - Rule #3 - It shall be declared illegal for men to wear a thong swimsuit. Somebody should make an amendment to the Constitution. So sorry for all you European babes, but man…I do not like men in thongs!
Rules:
Put your cart away. Don’t just leave it in the parking lot to bang into someone’s car.
