From my WIP, Kerosene, a romance-suspense:
Cait opened her purse and removed the contents of her wallet, along with every other piece of identification she had. Her eyes filled with tears as she picked up her hard-won medical license.
I don’t know if I can bear to part with this. A needle and thread…that’s what I’ll do, I can sew it into the lining of the jacket. People do that right? People on the run, they do things like that, don’t they? Sew their most precious possessions into the lining of their clothes?
I love her thoughts. They make her really human.
Love it! I want to know why she’s running and if sewing it into the lining of her clothes will be a bad move.
Nice. Of course a move like that is going to come back to haunt her.

Love how the phrasing shows her panic and vulnerability. It gives me the sense her whole life is being torn away and she desperately needs to hold on to this one tiny piece…somehow. Nice!

This was a concentrated glimpse into Cait’s psyche and values and you get a strong sense of which part of her identity will be challenged the hardest in the story.
