Sucks, but it’s my own fault. Seems like I’m always a day late and a dollar short.
Here’s what I miss: chats, book tours, (how do you all get in on those book tours?), promos. I try, I really do, but chats make me nervous - my ADD-ish brain feels overwhelmed by the threads. Plus they are extremely time consuming - consuming of time I don’t have.
Honestly, I lead a busy life and I barely have time to write. How on earth do you all fit time in for the extra stuff?
I’m currently splitting time between two WIPs, I’ve got a sequel to both Captured and One Four All in the works, and plans for oh-my-gosh, four more full-length books and a paranormal series. I take my blog very seriously, I answer my emails, I’m determined to keep up with my friends. Still, I feel that I’m missing out on so many promo opportunities - but how to choose?
Where do you get the biggest bang for your buck?

I’ve been doing less and less promoting since the holidays. I just don’t seem to have the time. And like you I’m barely writing. Not the answer you’re looking for, but I do understand.

You make your own party, babe! When you have a book coming out, plan your own virtual book tour (which I think you already do, right?)- visit romance sites and do interviews, giveaways, guest blog spots, and schedule reviews by sending out ARCs to willing bloggers. That’s plenty. You don’t need to do anything else. Book signings can be fun, but are not as effective or time-efficient as on-line promotion. Any other questions about promo stuff, email me! You know I’m the “promo queen”…hee hee!
p.s. A lot of those “promo opportunities” that sound so great end up being a big time suck and don’t really pay off.
I’m with you, Amber - my life is so out of control. I guess that’s par for the course though. I mean, even my dog requires 4-6 hours of walking/playing per day!
Penny - you’re hired! Help!
You are one busy lady Julia. There’s only so much promoting one person can do. For me I try to keep up to date on the forums I used to get book recommendations from before I started writing. Seems to be working, so I don’t try to stretch myself too thin when it comes to promo.
This winter I had to cut waaaay back on blogging and other activities just to get my regular work done. Honestly, I didn’t see any return from some of those ventures. My new policy is to only visit the sites I love and that add to my day, and try to say something memorial instead of lots of easily forgettable fluff.
Time is so precious and there’s so much to do.

It feels like there is never enough time for anything….We have so much to do and when we do it all we dont get to write.
I write-first and foremost.
I blog most days (and at least every couple days go read other blogs and comment if there’s something I have to say).
I post something on facebook early in the morning. And maybe late in the evening.
I have ONE chat per month at which I promo my newest title PLUS one older one.
I attend friends chats if invited (that usually doesn’t happen!)
I RARELY receive e-mail, though of course I answer if I do.
I occasionally do interviews if asked (again that is a rarity).
Delilah, Kat and Savannah - yes, there are only so many hours in the day and a whole lotta my day is taken up by Jake, the Playinator!
Anny - you are so consistent about your chats. I really admire that.
I hear yeah, bud.
I’m not a chatter either, unfortunately. I almost:) keep up with my blogs.
And finding writing time gets challenging.
What a great question, Julia!!!! Thanks for asking this. I’m sitting back reading all the answers in hopes I will learn something.
I do take the blogs seriously, Sandra - I’m on hiatus from Seven Sexy Scribes because I could not deal with any more romance right now.
Ciara - I think I’m learning there are no easy answers. I think I’ll take Penelope’s suggestion and join the RT discussion.
Julia, don’t feel too stressed about it…your writing is your biggest promotion tool. I’ve taken a breather from a lot of social networks too because I’m in the middle of a wip. I just don’t have the time.
The million dollar question. There’s never enough time. But like Anny said … writing comes before everything or the rest of it doesn’t matter. (Do what I say, Julia, not what I actually do.)
Great statement, Evie - your writing is your biggest promotional tool! I’m going to remember that!
Okay, Nina. I’ll do as you say and ignore what you do! LOL!
