Jake, otherwise known as ‘Babypie‘ or ‘Jakiebake‘, has many friends in the Valley (yeah, I know, hard to believe he’s my dog). He’s very outgoing and gregarious and most other dogs seem to find him attractive, playful and fun-loving. It’s rare when another dog growls at him, although Zini, a 1-pound Teacup Chihuahua, really has it in for him. Zini hates Jake’s ass and goes after him every single time they meet. Of course Jake, all 85 pounds of him, runs away in pretended fear because he wants to make sure the little Napoleon feels good about his small self.
So, there’s Ford, the black and tan Coon Hound. Jake and Ford love (Love with a capital “L”) each other. They wrastle like two rambunctious teenage boys while Ford’s owner and I hike. We don’t even need to pay attention. The two dogs run wild, but always catch up to us.
Daisy #1 is his best girl. She’s a Border Collie.
Daisy #2 is his second best girl. She’s an Aussie.
Then there are the rest of Jake’s girls - Zoe - a Chow/GSD mix, Winnie - a yellow Lab mix, Riley - a Border Collie, Bailey - an Aussie, Pepper - a Rot-Lab mix, and Lulu - a St. Bernard.
He’s got one other boyfriend, Winston, a miniature Schnauzer. Jake goes for Winston’s legs and Winston leaps for Jake’s neck. The two remind me of Mutt and Jeff.
Everybody who hikes the open-space parks in town knows Jake.

He’s neutered, right? Not off makings Daisy/Jakes? He was quite downcast about the whole thing if I recall. But he sounds well socialized and that’s good. Maybe adults (human) should have play dates.
Geez, the dog has more friends than me! lol
Our dogs are making lots of friends at the park too. The DH says there’s a little female that gives our boys a run for their money. They’re all 80-110lbs.
Watching dogs play totally makes my day and your Jake is such a cutie!
Isn’t it funny when you know all the dogs’ names, but not one of the owners? “Hi, Daisy’s Mom!”…..hee hee!
Jake sounds like my kinda fella…
Oh, Anny, he’s everyone’s kinda fella!
Yeah, Penny - I have no clue what the owners’ names are, but I know every dog. I think Ford’s owner’s name is Ike, but Ike might be the name of another dog…
Oh, Nina, mine too! That and playing with my cats when they’ll agree to play with me!
Hey Amber, my dog has way more friends than me! I’m such an isolationist! I have acquaintances, he has friends!
Nope, Steph, not off making Daisy/Jakes. But they’d be cute if he was!
Jake is such a handsome, sweet boy, no wonder he has lots of friends.
Have you noticed that dogs act as social ambassadors for their owners? If the dog is unfriendly-don’t bother that person… If the dog is a social butterfly by all means introduce yourself.
XXOO Kat
Hi Kat! Dogs get us out and moving. Yes, I meet lots of people walking Jake.
I have known people at the gym for years w/o ever knowing their names.
Yeah, Steph, but you still say hi and chat, I bet. I always do. But I know the dog’s names.
What a ladies man. He’s such a beauty.
Thanks, Sandra. He does like the girls.
