How to avoid the Bublogic plague.

Also known as the Black Death, the Bubonic Plague is one of three illnesses caused by Y. pestis (oh, such a cute name!)- actually Yersinia pestis. It’s spread by rodents and their fleas.

The reason it was known as the Black Death is because the swollen or infected lymph nodes become echymotic - bruised, black, the echymosis spreading over the body. Without treatment, two-thirds of those infected die within four days. The Bubonic Plague wiped out, oh, maybe as much as 60% of the European population in the infamous Calamitous Fourteenth Century. (That the Bubonic Plague inspired the children’s rhyme, Ring Around the Rosie, is a folktale. The rhyme appeared over 200 years later.)

So, how do I avoid catching the Bublogic Plague?

1. Never talk religion.

2. Never ever talk politics.

3. Never say mean things about hubby.

4. Never trash talk.

5. Never engage shitheads.

6. Always give my cat tuna when I move him off my keyboard.

7. Always post pictures of the dog and/or vegetables and/or hubby.

8. Always laugh at Martin Scorsese commercials.

    Love Jake…hubby’s a keeper too. :)

  2. Penelope says:

The Bublogic Plague can be deadly.

    :)

  3. Tom Stronach says:

    Now you tell me

    1. Never talk religion.
If they come to the door I always engage them normally to the point where the leave in tears
    2. Never ever talk politics.
Can’t help it especially when I am giving UK politicians shit on Twitter and my blog
    3. Never say mean things about hubby.
I’ll ignore him when he gets here then
    4. Never trash talk.
You haven’t seen the arseholes I have to put up to who deserve to be talked to in trashy terms
    5. Never engage shitheads.
    Same as 4 above
    6. Always give my cat tuna when when I move him off my keyboard.
Cried all the way back from the Vet when Sooty was put to sleep, so miss that one
    7. Always post pictures of the dog and/or vegetables and/or hubby.
I look forward to your photos of veggies and Jake but as for 3 above I shall now ignore ‘I’
    8. Always laugh at Martin Scorsese commercials.
Hardly ever watch live TV and when watching recorded tv always fast forward through the commercials - no wonder I am a miserable git - nothing to laugh at (sighs)

  4. Wow, you nailed it, especially with the religion and politics. They are the easiest way to get into a confrontation with someone, even someone you like. I just don’t understand why those people are so wrong about religion and politics. Can’t they see I’m right? Why do they argue?

  5. Oh Stephanie, I know! It’s not that I don’t have opinions, it’s just that I don’t feel like fighting over my opinions, or feeling defensive or like I have to go on the offensive.

  6. I’m so sorry about Sooty, Tom. You are such a love. I do have strong opinions, but they are not for public consumption. You know… my mom always said- if you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say anything at all.
TV - I like creative TV and I like to laugh!
    Shitheads - I’ve known many.
Politicians - Yuck. Just Yuck. The people you really want in politics are the people who wouldn’t touch politics with a ten foot pole because they have integrity.

  7. Hi Amber - Jake is finally growing up. Not quite as out of control. Can’t say the same for hubby! :)

  8. Tim Dittmer says:

Good luck with that. It’s pretty tough sometimes.

  9. Yup, Savannah - them’s the rules!

  10. Sometimes, Tim, but this is why I’m obsessed with exercise. Blow off steam. :P

  11. Casey Wyatt says:

Aww, both are so handsome Julia! And awesome advice! :)

  12. They resemble each other, Casey! :P

  13. I love the way you think and write, Julia. All the medical, technical specifics in the beginning-like a mini-lesson in plagues plus the application to children’s nursery rhymes-and then WHAM! the “8 Rules via Julia” that keep you safe from the Bublogic Plague. Somehow, I imagine that this multi-talentedness also makes you an exceptional poet and hospice nurse.
    Good job!

  14. Hi Marylin. Thanks! It’s because my brain works in fits and starts. I’m easily distracted. :)
