Monday Morning Update - Oh… Book News.

What I’m reading and what I’m doing with my self-pubbed books!

1. I’m mad at Genghis Khan because of the way he treated his oldest son, Jochi. I’m really mad. What a jerk. Jochi could have been his very best general, ruthless like his father, ambitious, effective- a killing machine. But instead there was only hatred between father and son. (The truth may be quite different. IRL Genghis always acknowledged Jochi as his eldest son and as far as I can tell there was no falling out, although Jochi did not become his heir due to his untimely death.)

When it comes to the great Mongol expansion across Asia and Eurasia, if the conquest had continued as Tom Stronach says… The world would be a much different place…

Bones of the hills

Yoshi Toranaga says about Genghis in Shogun - (paraphrasing) “He was a just a barbarian who was very good at war.”

2. So Jake almost caught the mountain lion on Saturday. More of the story on Thursday.

3. I ate field mushrooms. This is notable because I have a rule about never eating any mushrooms somebody else picks. More on Tuesday, along with my new vanilla banana cream pie recipe. I actually made the crust!

Vanilla Banana Cream Pie.

4. I need to see two movies in the theater - This Is the End and World War Z. Just have to.

World War Z

Exciting Book News!

1. Brand spanking new covers for my paranormal series - the books Incorporeal, In the Flesh and The Soul Series (the omnibus). Stay is already a work of art so I have no plans to alter that cover. Follow the links and check them out. I’ll post the new covers here on Wednesday when I announce:

2. A summer surprise! Make sure to stop by.

  1. Tom Stronach says:

    As this another ramble?

Kidding, yes I was a bit mad at him too for his treatment of his first born but it did make for great reading and I really would like to see that alternative time line today to see how the world is if they had kept going, ah well.

Looking fwd to the pie recipe, congrats on the krust, so you’ve stopped clowning around in this department then - Krusty the clown, get it - sorry

Yes, Wold War Z looks interesting but I am worried as 7 year old Shannon wants to see it too I think I need to have a talk with my youngest Jenny who by the way tried to nick my giants top again last night

Book covers , again really, have an idea and stick with, sheesh now wonder women get a bad rep about always changing their minds

BTW, did I say I Lurvs ya xxxxxx

  2. Amber Skyze says:

Well, well, well, lots of teasers. :)

The pie looks delicious and I’m looking forward to the recipe. Can’t wait to hear about Jake’s encounter.
Oh and I just started reading The Iron King…I know the book’s addictive when it’s all I can think about. Thanks for the recommendation.

  3. Penelope says:

    1. Carl would love this book.
    2. Ack!
    3. Did you get sick? I hope they weren’t “magic mushrooms”…and the pie looks killer!
    4. Both those movies look great. I’m especially excited for the zombie movie.
    5. Love the sexy new covers!

    Happy Monday! :)

  4. Jaye says:

I can feel a book binge coming on. If my TBR pile weren’t digital, I’d be having to shovel pathways through my house in order to move around. You have to stop with the recommends until I catch up! (see how deftly I shift the blame for my addiction?)

Congrats on the crust! The question of the day is, will you actually eat any of it? That pie does look yummy.

I love the covers. It’s a good “look” for you. Who did them?

I, too, am dying to see World War Z. It might be my one theater-worthy movie this year.

  5. Oh Jaye - see if you can pick up this series on your kindle. Can’t remember why I got the books - maybe they weren’t available on kindle here in the U.S. I’m a sucker for great historical fiction. To answer your questions, yes, eating the crust since it’s not overwhelmingly crusty. The cover change was kind of a whim. I found the images and purchased them. Lex at Winterheart messed around with the lettering. Like you I decided I should go more romantic.

  6. Carl would love the series, Penny. See if you can find it for him. Nope, none of us got sick from the mushrooms. Up on the ranch they’ve been eating them for generations. The covers - thanks! Happy Monday to you too!

  7. Oh Amber, you’ll like this series even more! It’s exhausting because you can’t stop reading. I’m liking this crust - very tender and holds up well, even with a cream pie, and best of all, there’s not too much of it!

  8. Yes Tom, I get it. I’m a big Krusty fan! It did make for great reading but you know me- I had to check and see if it was all true and I was relieved to learn he did acknowledge him as his firstborn. Uh-oh, that Shannon, she’s a handful! Guess I’ll have to bring more Giants gear next time I come visit. And yes, it’s a girl thing - I love to change my mind! ;)

  9. I can’t wait for Jake’s story. Has it occurred to him what he’ll do if he catches the big cat? You should have a plan, Jake.

  10. No, Stephanie. Neither one of us has thought that far ahead. I’m hoping the cat stays out of his reach.
