Quit yer damn bitchin’! Melissa McCarthy and Elle Magazine knock one out of the park!

What is with our damn post-modern feminists??? I so hate this politically correct shit. And I burned my bra when I was thirteen years old- my training bra anyway.

When Miley Cyrus shows too much skin, the pundits bitch. (By the way, aside from the hammer tongue scene I like Wrecking Ball a lot. Great song and she can really sing it.)

So now Melissa McCarthy is on the cover of the newest Elle and the pundits are bitching because she’s covered up.

Some women are saying it’s disrespectful, that Elle covered her up because she’s fat. If Miley Cyrus can appear nude, all the time, so can Melissa McCarthy.

Give me a fuckin’ break!

A. The cover is fabulous.

B. Melissa McCarthy looks fabulous.

C. The cover is classy.

D. Melissa McCarthy looks classy ala a plus-sized brunette Grace Kelly.

E. The cover is sophisticated.

F. Melissa McCarthy looks sophisticated.

I love the cover. I am sick to death of magazines assuming the only way they’ll sell an issue is by showing tits and ass. Forget it. I’m buying the Melissa McCarthy issue because this is the classiest cover I’ve seen in years- on any women’s magazine.

So quit yer damn bitchin’!

The best cover I've seen in years!

The best cover I’ve seen in years!

From CNN: Plus-size Polemic- Is Melissa McCarthy Elle Cover Shameful?

Classy dame.

Another classy dame.

  1. I’d rather wear Melissa’s outfit, it’s glamorous. I can only hope to look so good.
PS. Wasn’t feminism all about supporting diversity in feminine role models?

  2. Good for you. It’s great to see a bit of class for a change.

  3. Ray Plasse says:

I think people just wanna criticize any one who is successful but doesn’t meet their own personal standards (though actually these people usually don’t meet their own standards) or it’s just just plain jealousy! And while I am not a fan of Miley’s music or looks she is no Amanda Bynes or Lindsy Lohann and I think she has the right to promote herself anyway she wants(though I could use a little/lot less tongue). :P

  4. Roberta says:

Too many times today overly-exposed T&A are mistaken for sexy.

Real sex appeal and sexiness is intelligence, grace, and humor. Every good strip teaser knows that. Show just enough to tease and leave the audience wanting more. Leave it to the imagination. Where is Gypsy Rose Lee when you need her?

Even Marilyn Monroe knew that. Or her handlers did.

Not only magazine covers need to learn that lesson, but TV, and movies need to as well. I am sick and tired of seeing tawdriness substituting for real sexiness.

  5. I saw the cover on TV and thought she looked amazing.

  6. Well done, Julia!
There’s no comparing Melissa McCarthy and Miley Cyrus. Melissa is classy; Miley tries to be noticed by wrapping her tongue around her ear…and doing other things.
Since when is nudity the measure of bravery or beauty?

  7. Oh Marylin - Melissa looks sooooo classy. Miley is Miley - using her body and the resulting notoriety for self-promotion. I agree. Nudity can be beautiful, but this Elle cover is gorgeous!

  8. She does, Stephanie. It’s a fantastic cover.

  9. Yes she does, Steph! ;)

  10. Yup, Roberta - not sexy. A good deal of sex appeal is what you don’t show. And it’s definitely intelligence.

  11. Ray - :P I could definitely use less tongue. The interesting thing about Miley Cyrus is that she is talented. She doesn’t need to use her body. I’d kind of like to see her talent speak for itself. However I don’t really care what she does. It’s her business.

  12. I agree, Greta. Rare these days.

  13. Yes, Kat - feminism was supposed to support our choices! Not stuff us into some PC closet. I love that coat. I want that coat! Old school glamour!

  14. Amber Skyze says:

Don’t they realize Melissa had a choice. If she felt uncomfortable she could’ve and most likely would’ve said no. The beauty of Melissa is she’s comfortable with who she is and if others aren’t that’s their problem.
I hate to admit I like Miley’s song too. She’s going for the shock factor like Madonna in her time. I just wish these young girls tried to be something unique - like themselves!

  15. Ray Plasse says:

Amber maybe she is being her. Who’s to say she’s not.

  16. I agree, Amber. I bet you Melissa McCarthy loves that cover! I would! Miley has talent - the tongue is a little much but I can deal with the rest, and yeah, Madonna was big on shock factor!

  17. I suspect Miley Cyrus will morph into many things over the years, Ray. The way I see it she figures- I got it so I’m gonna flaunt it.
