I’d like to start out with a thank you to Julia for inviting me to guest post today. My ongoing and not-so-secret mission is to spread the word about my favorite genre, SciFi Romance. To those ends, I’ve come up with a list of SciFi Romance book recommendations for holiday gift giving. Books always make great gifts, but finding the perfect book can be a challenge. Here are a few suggestions I hope you’ll find helpful.
For Your Favorite Guy
Yes, guys can enjoy SciFi Romance, too. Especially, if you don’t tell them that’s what it is. Rebels and Lovers by Linnea Sinclair is the perfect choice for the guy on your list. Devin Guthrie has long been the dutiful son and least likely to charge into adventure, but when his nineteen year old nephew goes missing he does exactly that. Devin is accompanied on his adventure by an old family employee who turns out to be much more than he seems. The three men in this story will appeal to the inner geek in any guy. They struck me as a bit of a Batman, Robin, and Alfred trio. They’re all a bit ordinary at first glance, but each turns out to be heroic under the skin. And, of course, Devin will win the forbidden love of his life, Captain Makaiden Griggs, the beautiful take-charge pilot who used to fly yachts for his wealthy family.
For the Adventurous Reader
Captured, by our very own Julia Rachel Barrett, tells the tale of the resourceful and wise Mari and her alien captor, Ekkatt. This story is at heart an alien abduction story, but Julia adds a layer of thoughtful SciFi to twist this popular erotic romance trope into something fresh and memorable. It’s brilliant, but don’t take my word for it—Captured is currently up for an EPPIE award.
For the E-Reader Fanatic
Available for Kindle and Nook, True Believers by Maria Zannini is the perfect book for the dedicated e-reader owner. This book is a science fiction romance that delivers a big book feel and is set against a large stage with a broad cast of well drawn characters. For my full recommendation stop by the Smart Girls Love SciFi blog. You don’t have to own an e-reader yourself to give e-books as gifts and if you’re not sure if the person on your list has an e-reader don’t let that stop you. E-books can also be read on desktop PCs and a variety of hand held devices, including many smart phones.
For the Fan of Regency-Set Romance
Ritual of Proof by Dara Joy is a must read for any fan of regency-set historical romance who is open to discovering new worlds. This story takes place on a distant planet with a woman dominated society that flips the world of Regency England on its head. Supposedly settled by women who used Regency Romances to shape the society, the world is fascinating and fun. This book was only released in hard cover and might be hard to find, but it is well worth the extra effort.
For the Non-Reader (or as a treat for yourself)
We all have someone on our list who, for one reason or another, simply will not sit down and read a book. For that person, consider an audio book. Powers That Be is a classic sci-fi romance by two extraordinary authors, Anne McCaffrey and Elizabeth Ann Scarborough, and is available as an audio book read by Marina Sirtis, best known for her role as Deanna Troy on Star Trek - The Next Generation. Powers That Be is an unforgettable story of a broken veteran who finds a new purpose and a new home on a frozen and mysterious planet. If, like Yana, you’re feeling a bit ragged consider treating yourself to a free trial download of this one from audible.com.
Even if these books aren’t the perfect fit for the loved ones on your list, I hope I’ve inspired you to think creatively about your holiday gift selections. I’m always looking for new ideas, so please share some of your own suggestions in the comments. I can’t wait to hear what you recommend.
***What wonderful suggestions from Charlie! I’m buying the entire list! Oh wait, I already did! Honestly, I’m humbled to see that Charlie included Captured on her list. I had no idea. Thank you.

I haven’t read the others (yet…) but I LOVE Anne McCaffrey and The Powers That Be series is Great! (Of course, I think almost everything else by her, and her w/ others, is wonderful too). I fully back up this recommendation! Also her Ship Who Sang/Search series is really good for SciFi Romance in my opinion… but I am just a reg reader, so take that with a grain of salt ;D

Great recommendations! Thanks for sharing.
Vicky - Anne McCaffrey is one of my all time favorites. I’m always amazed that so many people only read her Pern series when she has so many other great series.
Amber - My pleasure! I love any chance to talk about SciFi Romance.
Julia - Thanks again for letting me visit your blog today!
Thanks so much for being here, Charlie. I’ve already ordered your recs. Can’t wait! Hubby got one on his Kindle. I’m trying to find the audio book for a reasonable price. It sounds wonderful!
Of course, Captured is on my “To Be Read Again and Again” list! Have already read it twice.
Julia - I think the free trial I saw for audible was on amazon. I don’t know what hoops you have to jump to get it. Audio books are expensive, but they really work for taking the boredom out of travel, grocery shopping, etc… I’m working on a post about podcast fiction and audio drama as an often free alternative. Hope you enjoy the books!
Fran - me too!
OMG my book list exploded…Thank you so much..LOL
Charlie, I know I’m going to enjoy the books.
Hey, thanks Frannie!
Savannah - mine too!
I LOVE Sci-Fi. Oh no, which one to choose?
I think I’ll try Captured first and go from there. I’ve heard the author is supper cool!
Thanks Ciara! LOL!

I agree, Sandra! I’m looking forward to some sci fi! By the way…saw your new book today but now I can’t remember where!
