It’s a new day.

Change is good, right?

I’ve been religious about blogging over the past year, and I’ve loved the hell out of it, but I need to cut back. Here’s why without boring you with TMI.

My personal life is sort of overflowing with major events, for lack of a better word. Hubby gets a lot of heat from me on this site, literally and figuratively, and he’s a good sport about it, but my kids are off limits for the most part. What happens in their lives stays in their lives. Without going into detail, our family is incredibly busy and will be for the next six months or so. If I plan to finish any more books this year, blogging must be reined in.

In addition, on March 17th, I’m scheduled for eye surgery that will require me to wear eye patches for at least three days (except for moving from room to room), and I’m under strict instructions from my physician to stay off the computer and away from the television. I’m not even allowed to read books for 2-3 weeks. Sigh. I’m already experiencing anticipatory anxiety/withdrawal. But…healing the eyes is way too important. It’s okay, it will be all right. I’ll get better, promise. Reassurance anyone? Give it to me now because once the 17th rolls around, I may not be able to talk to any of you for quite a while.

OMG…no hiking for three weeks! How am I going to manage that?!? Hubby might have to tie me up! Hmmm…think of the possibilities…

Oops…back to the schedule. After this week, I’ll be posting every Monday and Thursday (aside from my time away from the computer) with what I hope will be interesting posts. Check in regularly because I’ll definitely keep you informed of anything that comes up - a great movie I’ve seen, a new book I’ve read, a release, a review, you know, quickies.

On Tuesdays I’ll be at Night Writers, which is a relaxing, laid back, non-writing-related venue, where I can talk to my heart’s content about hiking, the outdoors and food. Yum! Tomorrow? Thai chicken salad.

On Fridays I’m resuming my scheduled time slot over at Seven Sexy Scribes where I chat about bookity news and maybe write an occasional review.

***But I will not be available March 17th-oh, I don’t know, for a week, maybe two?

Important dates and places:

March 9th (Wednesday) - I’m at Dreams and Speculations with a guest review of a great sci fi book, Replay, by Ken Grimwood. Please join me there - your comments are very welcome.

March 11th (Friday) - I’m at DSB, Dirty Sexy Books, with a guest review of the nonfiction work, Casanova, Author, Lover, Priest, Spy, by Ian Kelly. Come on over and leave a comment! Casanova was totally into voyeurism and multiple partners. But he was so much more than the sum of his um…parts. :)

Again, thank you all for your contest support. Still waiting to hear from goldendawne1. Please contact me this week. I don’t want to have to give your prizes away to the runner-up!

  1. Janna says:

Good luck with the eye surgery, Julia! I’ll be thinking of you and praying for a quick recovery. Maybe audiobooks can be a solution for the not being able to read part. *hugs*

  2. amber skyze says:

You’ll be as good as new before you know it and the hubby tying you up…well, there’s always research to be done. You don’t have to see for that! LOL
Seriously, keep us posted when you can and you’ll be in my thoughts for a speedy recovery.
I know all about cutting back! :)

  3. Just remember chica, with all that tying up, that the eyes are sensitive to raised blood pressure. When I had two of mine I wasn’t allowed to do nada at the gym or home for two weeks and that was the reason I was given. Oh yes I so look forward to having more.
It went up into the thirties yesterday with heavy rains so now I can see grass- it’s not green but it’s not dirty snow either!

    Ciao, S

  4. Penelope says:

Good luck with everything coming up….dude! Take some time off…whenever you are here, we’ll be here bugging you…hee hee! :^) Good luck with surgery!

    Sending positive vibes your way,
    Penny

  5. Thanks, Penelope!

  6. Steph - is that it? I was told I cannot do anything that will raise my blood pressure for two weeks, even bend over. So that’s it!

  7. Yeah, Amber, you do - but you’re still three times as productive as I am, even in your condition!

  8. Hi Janna! I’m thinking I’ll either listen to audio books or put on movies I know by heart so I can picture the scenes and say the dialogue along with the characters!

  9. SusiSunshine says:

I know how hard eye surgery it but it will be over faster than you think now. And I love Janna’s audiobook idea.
Will be crossing my fingers for you.
    ((hugs))

  10. janicu says:

My mom had.. let’s see: eye surgery for a partially detached retina, eye surgery for a rare fungal infection in her eye and lasik surgery. The fungal infection was the worst. It was a trial (and my mom is a huge reader), but they all went well and now she sees better than before all of these things. So in case there’s any worry: I strongly believe you will be OK. Just hang in there for the 2-3 weeks! (How about audiobooks?)

  11. Delilah Hunt says:

Hope your eye surgery goes well and the healing. You always have such interesting and well though out blog posts, I know it has to take you quite a while to do them. And you’re right, the writing and your personal life is more important! I find it impossible to have a new blog post everyday also. I’d rather use the time plotting or doing something with my kids. Do what you have to do Julia. We’ll be here still, checking on your updates :-)

  12. Hi janicu - thanks! Yes, partially detached retinas in both eyes. Big blind spots and blurred vision. I’ve had lasik and I think once the surgery is over the blurred vision will improve. Your poor mom!

  13. Thanks, Delilah! You keep your posts short and sweet. I’m going to emulate your methods!

  14. Mia Watts says:

ACK! Good luck honey! I’ll be thinking about you and your eyes. HEY AUDIOBOOKS!! :) Did you know Melting Melinda (TEB) is on audio now? Yeah, cool huh… *whistling*

Also, I’m gonna call you. Maybe you could cautiously treadmill? Or is it the exercise that might cause bleeding thing? Yeah, don’t do that. Bad Mia. I never mentioned it.

  15. Bad Mia! Bad bad Mia! No treadmill! I cannot raise my blood pressure for two damn weeks! Thanks for hoping tho!

  16. Darn it! I just realized hubby can’t tie me up! Can’t raise my blood pressure. No sex for 2-3 weeks. Gaaaaa!

  17. May your eyes heal quickly, perfectly and with ease. I hope this brief time period off the computer will be a retreat and complete recharge of your creative energy. Be thinking about you-know-what… while your eyes are shut. May this be a gift and turning point, and come back soon.
    XXOO Kat

  18. Thanks, Kat my dear love. I will think about you-know-what! With my eyes shut. I think I should get dragon software so I can dictate!

  19. Barbara says:

Okay, no sex, blogging, reading and almost no computer time - you definitely need to stock up on audio books, chocolate, practice meditation, have more chocolate, make hubby give you lots of soothing massages and chocolate..oh, I think I’m projecting that chocolate part. ;)

Can you do things like yoga or stretching without bending? It doesn’t sound like it’ll be too long and you’ll be able to get back to your normal activities and you’ll have healthy eyes - it must be awful to have them the way they are now, I don’t know how you manage. I’m wishing you a safe surgery and an easy and quick recovery, Julia! A stress-free one, if you can manage it!

  20. good luck with everything and remember to take time for you…I shall say a little prayer for the surgery…

  21. Barbara - yes, chocolate. Even with blinders on, I can find chocolate! Sounds good!

    Thanks, Savannah!

  22. Evie Balos says:

Julia, your health and family come first so no worries about us! We’ll be here. Heck, if you were allowed you’d probably blog more than me even with the eye patches, lol.

Good luck with your surgery and speedy recovery. You’ll be in my thoughts.

    Hugs,
    Evie

  23. Ciara Knight says:

I thoughts and prayers will be with you on the 17th. I know everything will go smooth and you will be better after the surgery. Keep us posted when you are feeling better!

  24. Charlie says:

Big hugs and best wishes on the eye surgery. We’ll miss you, but be sure to follow doctor’s orders so you can get fab results.

  25. Thanks, Ciara and thank you, Charlie. I’ll be feeling your good wishes!

  26. What? No sex? OMG. You need some of my eggs!
One good thing is that eyes heal quickly, like, amazingly fast. I will miss your great blogs. I’ve had to cut back too. Not getting enough new writing done.
The dragon software has lots of instructions, so see if you can get your hubby to hook it up for you, and read all that.
I will keep you in my prayers. Your eyes are very important, and you’re young enough to have this done so you’ll have a lifetime of good reading and writing.

  27. Hi Evie - thank you so much for your good wishes.

Sharon - I WANT YOUR EGGS! I want chickens so bad and hubby will not let me have chickens! It’s like the one time he’s said no to me, well that, and living under the sea…
Yeah, kind of freaking out about the surgery but I have a wonderful doctor and I assuming all will be well.

  28. Nina Pierce says:

    I’ll be thinking of you. Grab some audio books from the library and listen to your hearts content. Adding prayers for a quick recovery. {{hugs}}
