Winter Is Coming, and I for one can’t wait to freeze!

IMO George R.R. Martin is the preeminent science fiction/fantasy writer of our time, followed closely by Tad Williams. (Put your weak-ass hand down, Wheel of Time.)

Not only is HBO running with A Game of Thrones - which looks like a slam-dunk, Martin’s next installment, A Dance with Dragons, is almost here! Oh joy! Rapture!

I’m looking forward to this too!

Oh my gosh! It’s like you opened my eyes or something. Now that Spartacus is on hiatus, I’m DYING to see this. When? When? When?????

  3. Julie L says:

I’ve had this on my audiobook TBR list, and I saw it’s going to be on HBO, I’m not sure what to do! Should I try and “listen” to it first and then watch, or watch it on HBO first and then read it. What do you think? I’ve just started listening to “An Echo in the Bone” which I know will take weeks to get through, should I stop and switch now to A Game of Thrones? So many choices and decisions to make! Is AGOT like a Lord of the Rings? What makes it’s so appealing to everyone?

LOL, I had this set up for Friday’s post. Great minds think alike. I already have it set on Direct TV. :) Fab choice, Julia.

  5. Oh Amber, I’ve been looking forward to this from the moment I learned the show was in production.

Mia - April 17th, my anniversary! Watch! I command you!

Julie - all but the most recent book (which came out maybe 5 years ago) are stellar. He’s like a latter day J.R.R. Tolkien. He tells a very intricate story - lots of different story arcs, but they flow together like magic. I try to look at the most recent release (which had great writing but followed characters I don’t care as much about - and which I liked a lot better a year later) as a stepping stone to this upcoming release. Be prepared, the books are dark, disturbing, tragic, glorious. If you’re a fast reader, drop everything and read the first book. That’s all you’ll need to grasp the story and understand the characters. Happy reading!

Ciara - wish I could read your post Friday! Dang!

  6. This looks wonderful. Thank you for pointing this out to me!
I love Sean Bean even when he’s grimy. What a natural tough guy.
