I swear to God I love this ad.

Paul Harvey, 1978

Maybe you gotta be from Iowa to appreciate it? I don’t think so.

  1. No, Julia, not just Iowa.
Being from Kansas and Colorado gets the thumbs up! and love for this video, too.

  2. I figured you’d appreciate the ad, Marylin. Makes me homesick.

  3. Roberta says:

    Bows head. Says, “Amen.”

  4. It’s one of the reasons I like to take the blue highways between Abilene and Fort Scott, Julia. On the back roads you still see so much open grazing land and farm land, so many red barns and tree-shaded farm houses with porch swings; in the little towns there are trucks everywhere, all kinds and all ages and conditions, and little boys and girls wearing cowboy hats and boots and smiling up at their dads and grandpas who wait in line with them to buy ice cream cones. And, unfortunately, along the way you see AUCTION ON SATURDAY signs too often and know that some family has lost the battle. But still I drive the back highways.
It all reminds me of who I am, where I’m from and what I still love.

  5. I understand, Marylin - I love that land. It’s in my soul and it breaks my heart to imagine that way of life gone. I have this feeling things may turn around one day. At least I hope. City folk have no idea…
