Stan Lee and Merle of The Walking Dead Knock It Out of the Park!

So we went to a San Francisco Giants game on Saturday night. Usually one of my favorite activities and it was this time- yes and no. (Innings 2-6 were kinda boring.)

When we arrived I asked about the giveaway and I was told it was Superhero socks! I so wanted a pair of Superhero socks! But they were only for kids. So I tried ye olde- “My kid is sick but she’d really like a pair. Please? Please?” But the giveaway person didn’t buy it.

Dang! Reminded me of when same said kid was too lazy to go trick-or-treating so she made her brother collect candy for her. He told everyone- “My sister’s sick and she couldn’t go out tonight.” He was so humiliated. She sat at home, scarfing down our Halloween candy while he lied for her, and he’s a rotten liar. (So is she, for that matter.) But I had to try! And Superhero Night was apropos because I’m in the midst of writing a Superhero novella. No shite. Dreamed it. If you dream it you will write it. Stan Lee I had no idea one of my real life Superheroes, Stan Lee!!! would be there. Not only be there, but that he would throw out the first pitch, to Merle from The Walking Dead of all people, who looks in real life looks just like Merle from The Walking Dead except with a hand! Wowee!

Merle (Michael Rooker) from The Walking Dead.

(Merle totally muffed on that pitch- a catcher he ain’t, but we’ll cut him some slack because he probably just recently regrew his hand. But he does appear to be a big baseball fan. Was really into the whole scene.)

If you love comic books, Stan Lee is your idol. I’ve worshiped Stan Lee since I was eight years old. You really should see my Silver Age comic book collection - three packing boxes full of ‘em. Stan Lee is 92 years old and he’s sharp as a tack. He walked out to the pitcher’s mound without assistance and threw that ball. It wasn’t a perfect pitch but it bounced on home plate. If Merle had been in a crouch, he’d have had it.

Oh, Stan, I love you so!

Sounds like it was all sorts of fun. Can’t wait for your Super Hero Book.

  2. Ah, thanks, Sandra!

  3. Roberta says:

Baseball used to be my fave sport to watch. But compared to hockey it is so slow and - dare I say it - boring, that hockey is fast becoming my sport of choice. However, hockey does not give away Super hero socks. Yet!

  4. My son is a hockey fanatic, Roberta. He loves the game. I never got into it. You’d love superhero socks!

  5. I absolutely love seeing Stan Lee get the attention and respect he deserves!

  6. He’s so cool, Kat! An amazing specimen at 92. This is what comes of living what you love.
