the most unapologetically masculine character to ever appear on either the big or little screen. He’s had my husband jumping up and down, cheering, these last two episodes of A Game of Thrones on HBO. (man crush)
Compared to the Khal, every other man may as well be Richard Simmons. He makes Anthony Weiner look like SpongeBob Squarepants.
Things are very black and white with Khal Drogo. And everybody knows the rules. If they don’t? Khal Drogo doesn’t believe in pussy-footing around! There’s something very pure about the way he kills people who displease him. There’s no hesitation, no second guessing, no second chance. And he kills with flare and creativity and without remorse. There’s something so impressive about that when one is in charge. Not that such a philosophy would work in our society.
You don’t like my decision? Fine, I’ll pour molten gold on your head.
Insult my Khalisi? I’ll slit your throat and rip out your tongue.
His unbridled masculinity is elegant. Absolutely, uncompromisingly beautiful.
He’s balanced by his extremely feminine, tenderhearted counterpart, the Khalisi, Daenerys Targaryen. The Khal is comfortable enough with his own masculinity (and sexy skin) that he’s willing to yield to her femininity when he sees fit. He’s willing to accept her point of view at times. If his own men don’t agree? Well, screw you, you’re dead right now.
If you’re not watching A Game of Thrones, you are missing one of the most darkly brilliant shows ever created.
Here’s this most recent episode if you’re interested. Warning: graphic violence

Do you know why the Khal Drogo character, despite his brutality, works? Because he’s nice to his wife and he follows the rules - This is not a democracy. I may or may not take your input. If you do something I don’t like I’m going to kill you.

I can’t take it! I’m so envious, I don’t have HBO. My sister continually emails me to say how amazing Games of Thrones is and now this… There’s a couple of trouble makers in my life that I would love to pour molten gold onto. Why didn’t I think of that? I did sign up on Amazon for an alert. I want to know the moment Game of Thrones becomes available on DVD.
XXOO Kat
I’m a loser. I couldn’t tell the last time I watched something on tv beside Nick jr. I had no idea this show even existed *blush* He is hot, wow. I love heroes who are brutal but can turn to mush for their woman. I was just riveted by the female during his speech. She looked as if she was about to orgasm just by listening to him!
Yes, this is another show the DH and I are addicted to thanks to YOU.
And, Momoa isn’t hard to watch either. Hot, Hot Hot.
I can has testosterone
Oh yeah, What language is that? In the books is this soliloquy given in the language or in English?
Steph - he speaks Dothraki, but in the books, it’s in English.
Kat and Delilah - so sorry! You need to watch this!
Hee-hee Amber! So glad I could get you hooked!
Some of GoT has been VERY hard for me to watch-the animal issues in particular. But the Khaleesi is a character I’m drawn to because of her adapting to her new situation. She was bartered like a cow to the Khal but her own ambitions have created a very interesting bond there.
And Khal Drogo? Be still my beating heart. He’s scrumptious. I love his alpha male, chest-beating, warrior rants.
I also love that Tonks from Harry Potter is in this show.
I signed up for HBO just to see this! I’m a HUGE fan of the books & George R.R. Martin, so I couldn’t wait a whole year for the DVDs to be released to see how well HBO handled their adaptation. IMO, they’re doing a SMASHING job! LOVE IT! And Jason Momoa~YUM! That Lisa Bonet is one lucky girl! First Lenny Kravitz and now Jason. I’m greeeeeen with envy.

YA Adventures in the Paranormal…and Beyond!
I love his character! When I first saw him I thought he was scary looking. After he started being so sweet with his wife, he got oh so sexy! The hubby and I are hooked on the show!
Shawn, oh, I totally agree. It’s must-see TV! He’s scary in the book too, but so loves his Khalisi!
Roni, I signed up for HBO to watch True Blood, but then lost interest last season. I’m going to give it another try this next season, especially since it comes on right before Game of Thrones - but Game may be the best adaptation of a fantasy series I’ve ever seen aside from Lord of the Rings. I’ve got them even right now.
Arwen, I haven’t seen the Harry Potter movies? Who plays Tonks?
Oh yes, Arwen, the gorgeous chest-beating rants! He’s such a barbarian. I close my eyes during any animal scenes.
The actress who plays Tonks is the actress playing the woman who was captured at Winterfell. Don’t know the character’s name but she’s the one who talks to Bran about the old Gods speaking through the trees.
Khal Drogo is HAWT. I love his character. My husband and I are hopelessly addicted to this show! You should read the book. It’s just as amazing. I have a feeling Kaleesi is going to be a force to be reckoned with.
The Khal is delicious. The dynamics between him and Dani are wonderful, too. He’s a bit amused that she tries to step on his toes, but he respects her for it-and guts anyone who says otherwise. Yanking out someone’s tongue through their slit throat…hubba hubba. *fans self*
That’d be Osha, Arwen-I love her in the books too. The casting for the show is so perfect it’s scary. (Can we say “OMG Peter Dinklage”? Tyrion cracks me up.)
Honestly, it helps that the series has such a fantastic writer behind it. My hubby’s birthday is on release day for A Dance with Dragons…he’s damn near giddy.
My husband and I love Game of Thrones! And talk about all the hunks on there. My God! Did they go out and collect them or something?
I’ve been watching Mamoa since he played Ronin on Stargate Atlantis and I so desperately want to see him as Conan the Barbarian. I think he’ll way out do Arnie in that role.
I’m so glad I recorded that last fight scene because I had to go back and watch it again. Fascinating.
I must say, he really is something else! I loved the look on his wife when Dani was eating the heart! I’m listening to the book on audio right now too and then watching the series episode once I pass it in the book - I totally love it!!!
I meant to say, I loved the look on his face! That subtle proud look for her that she didn’t barf it all up! I plan on watching another episode tonight!
I figured, Julie. The look on her face…and his…was perfection. Man I would have barfed it up!
Denise - if he’s going to be Conan, I am so on board! Isn’t it interesting how husbands like this show too? I never watched Stargate Atlantis. Might have to see what I missed.
Cera - I wanted to show that scene but it might make readers gag! I’ve been waiting for A Dance with Dragons for soooo long! Book four wasn’t my favorite, but who cares? I love the series. The casting is brilliant, quite possibly the most brilliant casting I’ve ever seen on a series.
Hi Michelle - see? Another husband addict. Mine never watches this stuff and he’s such a devoted fan! He’s totally in love with the Khal - hubby says: “You don’t have to worry about compliance, nobody is going to file a lawsuit, someone complains about your decision you rip out their tongue. What a guy!”
She is great. I really like her. My husband remembered her once he read your comment.
I don’t have HBO so I am not able to watch the show.
Wow, I hadn’t heard of this show before, but this scene was mesmerizing. I loved Jason Momoa in Stargate Atlantis, but he’s even better in this. Hopefully we’ll get the show down here in NZ.
Savannah - it’ll be out on Netflix, I bet.
Shelley - see if you can get it on youtube or at least watch some of the scenes. It is great - based upon the epic fantasy series by George R. R. Martin.
Nice to his wife works for me.
I have know about Jason since Baywatch Hawaii LOL. Thought he was a hottie then and he is playing Khal perfect IMO. I love how he treats his wife. In the book he treats her even better.
Rosey, I never knew about him! I love him! He is so good to Dani in the book! Truly, he’s such a barbarian and so loving to his wife!
That Lisa Bonet is livin’ right! First Lenny Kravitz and now Jason Momoa, lucky, lucky, girl.
No kidding! Thanks for stopping by, Sandie!
