Why oh why do I buy the stuff I like???
I should buy the sucky stuff like Skittles (hate ‘em), Laughy Taffy (hate it), Bit ‘O’ Honey (double hate it).
Instead I buy Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Peanut M&Ms, Twix, Kit Kat and Nestle’s Crunch Bars. What was I thinking? Now I’ll eat the leftovers. No, I won’t. Just two more baby Twixes and the rest is going into the freezer, by god!
Last year it rained. We had like five kids.
This year we had hordes. Ravening hordes. Had to send the old ball and chain out for three bags of candy at 7:46, just before the neighborhood market closed at 8.
Loved it. I love those costumes. When Louie (Jake’s predecessor) was alive, he’d always dress in a devil costume and answer the door with me. Jake has to watch from the balcony. He’s not as trustworthy. Likes kids but not when they’re in scary makeup. I’m afraid he’ll bark and terrify some toddler and a parent will yell at me.

We had one visit (2 kids) to our house for Halloween this year so I have some Butterfingers and Nerds to hoard for a while. No tears here.
Love the pumpkin - I didn’t bother buying candy - if anyone comes I just give them cash.
Ball and chain huh?
Nobody ever comes to our door on Halloween. Something about “the crazy old guy”.
Well, Tim, to be completely honest it was one of the ball and chain juniors.
Crazy old guy? Never!
Cash, huh. Good idea, Steph. But bigger kids might steal from little kids.
Two kids, Ray? Sounds like our house last year. Ohhhhh, Butterfingers, one of the other good kinds of candy! If I had Butterfingers I’d make homemade ice cream and crumble them into it.
We had 79. My two favorites were an 8 mo. old cowboy wearing a stick-on mustache and a mini-Stetson tied under the chin; and a darling 14-year-old girl dressed like Betsy Ross, in bonnet and long dress, holding part of a flag and pretending to sew. The girl had Down’s Syndrome, and after we oohed and aahed, she gave a wide grin and said she wanted to pet our dog Maggie instead of getting candy. I gave her both…
Bless his heart, Jim had hidden an extra package of 6 peanut butter cups, and when we turned off the light and closed the door and called it a night…the candy was on my pillow! Now is that a sweet guy or what?!?
We only had about 25 before we took the wee one out. She had more fun giving out the candy though.
Mr. Skyze brought home all the candy and damn him, it was everything I like. Would we really buy what we don’t like though? If we don’t like it, what’s the chances kids will? LOL It’s a lose-lose situation.
We have to lock the dogs in their “safe” room so the little ones won’t be scared off.
No candy here. Haven’t had trick or treaters in at least five years…
For some reason kids (and grownups) don’t want to climb a steep hill with no lights and brave the neighborhood bear to ring my doorbell. No kids at all.
No candy either. Damn….
No kids visiting here either, which was just as well as I had eaten all the candy and anyway it wouldn’t have been nice to them letting the scary granny Ishbel open the door to them…..
Don’t let Ishbel hear you say that, Tom. She’s the nicest of the nice. So do kids trick or treat there?
Ah, but Jaye you have baked goodies courtesy of LB… what could be better??? Our street is dark too but that didn’t deter the kids this year.
Too bad, Anny! I love those cute little kiddies!
Amber, I bet she loved seeing all the costumes! Yes, I guess we should buy what we like. When I was a kid I hated getting crappy candy.
How sweet, Marylin! My faves were a brother and sister - the 8 year old girl was Princess Laia (sic) hair buns and all, and her two year old brother was a perfect Yoda. Boy did he fill his bag with candy!
Nice hubby!
No if Ish see’s it she might leave me in the street the next time we are out walking…. Yes all the Grandkids were out trick and treating
And do the kids there wear costumes, Tom?
